Mechanical Engineer I/II
Overview The Waterfront Mechanical Engineering department provides Engineering oversight for the design and construction of a variety of components that are on-board VIRGINIA Class submarines. Some of the components and mechanical systems that fall under the waterfront engineering cognizance are as follows:
Internal mechanical systems such as weapons shipping and handling, the torpedo tubes and the payload tubes
As an Engineering on the waterfront, the role is to provide engineering oversight of the design of the components and systems, support the procurement of some of the components and systems, troubleshoot the systems during installation at time of new construction and also provide engineering support of the systems during post-delivery service periods. In doing so, some of the products worked on and activities that take place on during the day-to-day basis are as follows:
To support the needs required of the waterfront engineering organization the department is looking for a motivated individual who has adequate technical writing ability and verbal communication skills. All newly hired engineers will be assigned a mentor to facilitate professional development within the department and to assist with learning the necessary skills to support the tasks assigned to the engineer.
