About The Position | Major goals and objectives and location requirements

InStyle is seeking a news editor to help drive timely coverage across celebrity, fashion, beauty, and pop culture for InStyle.com, a trusted destination for celebrity news, style, red carpet, and more. The news editor will be responsible for pitching, writing, and editing news under this coverage umbrella, with an emphasis on audience growth and data-informed strategy. This role will report to the News Director and work closely with a team of freelance news writers to help shape InStyle's news vertical.

In-office Expectations: This position is hybrid in-office, with the ability to work remotely for up to 2 days per week.

The Role's Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements:

Education:

A BS degree in journalism, communications, or related field (preferred) and/or equivalent experience.

Experience:

  • Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills.

  • Demonstrate strong news judgment and ability to identify stories that will drive traffic.

  • A deep passion for/knowledge of celebrity, pop culture, and celebrity fashion is essential.

  • Interested in ideating unique and strategic takes on the news that will help to engage and grow the InStyle audience.

  • Comfortable covering red carpets, awards shows, and other live events.

  • Thrive in a fast-paced news environment and work well under pressure with flexibility.

  • Display strong professionalism.

Specific Knowledge, Skills, Certifications and Abilities:

  • Interested in ideating unique and strategic takes on the news that will help to engage and grow the InStyle audience.

  • Familiarity and interest in using data and metrics like Looker, Google Analytics, Chartbeat, and Parse.ly, to help inform coverage.

  • Familiarity with CMS systems.

  • Familiarity with SEO best practices, Google Trends, etc.

  • Expected to work occasional weekends and off-hours as needed for tentpole award shows.

Pay Range

Salary: New York: $67,000.00 - $80,000.00

The pay range above represents the anticipated low and high end of the pay range for this position and may change in the future. Actual pay may vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to work location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of People Inc's total compensation package for employees. Other compensation may include annual bonuses, and short- and long-term incentives.
