Description
This is a paid internship, range of $22/hr - $39/hr (depending on role and qualifications) for those currently pursuing undergraduate degrees and higher rates for those currently pursuing graduate level degrees.

DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
Sound Transit's Transit Operations department oversees and manages Sound Transit operations throughout the Puget Sound region across all of our services - Link, Sounder, and ST Express. The System and Service Planning intern will have an opportunity to be a part of the team that develops our Annual Service Plan,, manages our Service Change Process , and develops recommendations to improve our bus and rail services to better serve passengers.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.
JOB DUTIES:



  • Monitors performance metrics and, if applicable, works with Service Planning team members at Sound Transit and Partner agencies to develop and recommend service changes to improve route efficiency or utility.
  • Assists in the development of Annual Service Plan content and document creation.
  • Works with other groups within Sound Transit and at partner agencies to communicate, and implement twice-yearly service changes.



POTENTIAL PROJECTS:




  • Service Change proposal & engagement material development.


  • Service Changes implementation support.


  • Service Plan document review and content development.


  • Network Plan support.




MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must be a current college student in good academic standing, enrolled in an accredited Associate, Bachelor's or Graduate Degree program in Transportation Planning, Public Administration, Urban Planning, or relevant two-year certificate.
ADDITIONAL SKILLS:



  • Microsoft Office Suite / O365



PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Personal or working experience with public transit system(s).
  • Basic knowledge of the Puget Sound area, and / or Sound Transit service area.
  • GIS familiarity (Geographic Information Systems).



PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT:



  • Work is performed in a standard office environment.
  • Subject to standing, walking, bending, reaching, stooping, and lifting of objects up to 25 pounds; may occasionally be exposed to dangerous machinery when visiting job sites during construction and when working in the field.
