Minimum Requirements (Minimum educational, experience, or other relevant job requirements)
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.
- Seven or more years of proven progressive accounting management and financial leadership experience, preferably in the construction materials industry, including at least three years in a senior leadership role overseeing complex, multi-entity financial operations.
- Demonstrated executive leadership capability, with a proven track record of building, mentoring, and developing high-performing finance teams.
- Strong financial and strategic acumen, including budgeting, forecasting, ROI analysis, and long-term business planning.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage at all levels.
- Proven ability to serve as a trusted business partner to operations, translating financial data into actionable insights.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively influence and engage at all organizational levels.
- Uncompromising ethical standards and integrity, with sound business judgement and a demonstrated commitment to strong governance and internal controls.
- Ability to travel as required; a valid driver's license is required.
- Must be located at, or willing to relocate to, a West Region location.
Preferred Requirements (preferred requirements i.e certifications, software use, etc.)
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA), or equivalent professional certification.
- Ten or more years of progressive leadership experience in construction materials or related industries, with demonstrated responsibility for P&L oversight and a track record of supporting profitable growth across multi-state and multi-business lines.
- Expertise in operations and capital planning, including safety, regulatory compliance, risk management, and execution of major investments with disciplined governance.
- Proven experience supporting mergers, acquisitions, and post-acquisition integration efforts.
- Exceptional executive presence with strong financial acumen, stakeholder engagement skills, and board-level communication abilities.

- *Champion Knife River's mission, values, and strategic goals by promoting them internally and externally to team members, customers, communities, and industry stakeholders.
- *Champion Financial Stewardship and Governance. Lead by example in promoting strong financial controls, integrity, and compliance, ensuring regional financial practices align with GAAP, SOX, and corporate governance standards.
- *Serve as a Strategic Business Partner to Operations. Collaborate with regional and state leadership to translate financial data into actionable insights that drive EBITDA growth, margin improvement, disciplined cost management, and profitable growth.
- *Lead Regional Financial Strategy & Planning. Oversee budgeting, forecasting, long-range planning, and performance management processes to support business objectives and informed decision-making.
- *Drive Regional Standardization & Best Practices. Lead the development and implementation of standardized financial processes, policies, and procedures across the West Region to improve consistency, efficiency, and scalability.
- *Strengthen Internal Controls & Risk Management. Design and maintain a strong internal control environment that protects company assets, mitigates risk, and ensures reliable financial and operational reporting.
- *Lead & Develop Regional Finance and IT Talent. Provide leadership, coaching, and professional development for State Controllers, finance, and IT teams, building strong bench strength and a high-performing finance organization.
- *Support Mergers, Acquisitions, and Integration. Partner with corporate and regional leadership on due diligence, financial evaluation, and post-acquisition integration to support growth initiatives.
- *Advance Systems and ERP Optimization. Champion continuous improvement and optimization of financial systems and technology to enhance data integrity, reporting capabilities, and operational efficiency.
- *Coordinate Internal and External Audits. Oversee regional audit activities, serving as a primary liaison with auditors and ensuring the timely resolution of findings.
- *Provide Executive-Level Financial Insight. Prepare and present clear, concise financial information to regional leadership, supporting strategic decisions and performance reviews.
- *Represent the Company and Finance Function. Participate in corporate and industry forums, working groups, and committees, positioning Knife River as a strong financial steward and industry leader.
- *Ensure Agility and Responsiveness. Maintain the ability to travel as needed and support special projects and leadership initiatives that advance regional financial and operational excellence.

- Deep knowledge of GAAP, SEC requirements, financial reporting, internal controls, and compliance within the contracting, aggregates, ready-mix concrete, cement, or related industrial environment.
