Position Highlights

The University of Arizona College of Medicine - Phoenix is hiring an assistant or associate clinical professor in the Department of Family, Community and Preventive Medicine (FCPM) to serve as the director of the Service of Community Certificate of Distinction (COD), lead of Population and Health Promotion focus for the Service of Community Certificate of Distinction (COD) and assistant director of research for FCPM.

The administrative role will report to associate dean of Community Engagement and FCPM chair. This position will involve leadership over the Service of Community COD and each of the tracks within and mentoring medical students enrolled in the Service of Community COD. The selected individual will help students in the COD identify appropriate learning opportunities, including academic projects and supporting academic mentors, Community Health Initiative - Phoenix (CHI-P) service hours and community electives. This individual will support initiatives in the Office of Community Engagement aimed at improving health outcomes for populations in our communities that typically experience worse-than-average health outcomes. This individual will support community-based research projects within the COD and FCPM and will identify and obtain grant funding for this research.

The successful candidate will fulfill the responsibilities of a faculty member in the department and must qualify for an appointment at the rank of assistant or associate professor.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Oversee all activities and curriculum in the Service of Community Certificate of Distinction (COD).
  • Hold office hours for students to help them design their learning experiences and connect with appropriate mentors and opportunities for population focus within the Service of Community COD.
  • Supervise and mentor medical students in their academic projects.
  • Collaborate with the director of Service Learning, director of Medical Spanish, as well as other members of the Office of Community Engagement to deliver seminar content.
  • Help support student progress and completion of certificate of distinction requirements.
  • Lead community and population health-based research to support primary care and the Department of Family, Community and Preventive Medicine.
  • Identify and secure grants to fund community based research initiatives and primary care innovations.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Hold an MD, DO or equivalent degree from an accredited institution.
  • Be eligible for clinical practice in the state of AZ.
  • Be eligible for a University of Arizona academic appointment at the assistant or associate professor level.
  • Demonstrate outstanding interpersonal communication
    and professionalism skills.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Have a minimum of one years' experience with medical education with a focus on educating at the UME level.
  • Demonstrate experience mentoring students in academic/research projects.
  • Have experience working with populations that typically experience worse-than-average health outcomes.
