Primary Responsibilities:
Works with Manufacturing Engineers, Department Supervisors, Manufacturing Managers, Maintenance personnel, and personnel at various plants to design, repair, maintain, machine, and build dies, assembly tools/machines, and other tools and gages.

Duties:

  1. Works with prints, CAD models, sketches, and other information to develop tools and gages needed for assembly.
  2. Develops machining process tooling.
  3. Maintains tooling schedule/list that shows tasks and their status of completion.
  4. Works with outside vendors and services for heat treat, plating, etc. for tools and gages that are made or repaired.
  5. Sets up and operates machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders to machine parts, and verifies conformance of machined parts to specifications.
  6. Programs, setups, and runs CNC Mills and Lathes used for making tools.
  7. Lifts machined parts and positions and secures parts on surface plate or worktable.
  8. Smooth flat and contoured surfaces and power grinders, and fits and assembles parts together and into assemblies and mechanisms.
  9. Verifies dimensions, alignments, and clearances.
  10. Connects wiring and hydraulic lines to install electrical and hydraulic components, with proper instruction given.
  11. Examines standard or previously used dies, tools, and jigs and fixtures, and recommends design modifications regarding construction and function of part.
  12. Maintains Tooling Database, adding new tools to database, recording maintenance events on the tools, and doing preventive maintenance on tools per a schedule.
  13. Design and build all production and proto-type tooling required to produce quality parts.
  14. Order necessary supplies to maintain and build tooling.



Other Responsibilities:

  1. Maintain machine/equipment/building blueprints, manuals, quotations, maintenance logs, and other documentation, as necessary.
  2. Work with manufacturing supervision on solving tooling and equipment problems.
  3. Secure necessary outside machinery and building inspection, maintenance, construction, and/or equipment relocation services as required.
  4. Manage our Toolroom Safety training program, including training authorized employees on the proper use of our toolroom and maintenance equipment.

Education and experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or vocational trade degree; and at least five years of on-the-job experience in manual machining, tool making, and equipment maintenance or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
