What to Expect
As a Tesla Associate Facilities Operations Engineer, you will support the operation and optimization of one of the world's most advanced manufacturing facilities. This role focuses on enhancing energy efficiency, minimizing environmental impact, and maintaining high safety and sustainability standards. You will monitor and operate critical facilities equipment, working closely with engineering teams to refine systems that drive Tesla's mission. Initially, you will support the Facilities Operations team, with a clear growth path toward becoming a Facilities Systems Engineer.

What You'll Do
  • Operate and monitor boiler and steam system, chemical refinery, and other utility equipment in a 24/7 production facility to ensure reliable service to all areas of the site. Other systems include: HVAC, Chilled and Heating Water systems, Compressed Air, Electrical distribution, VOC abatement, chemical delivery and recovery systems
  • Troubleshoot alarms and instrument readings that fall outside of normal operating parameters, diagnose and resolve equipment malfunctions and minimize downtime
  • Provide support for new equipment installation, startup, commissioning and sustaining operations
  • Maintain accurate records of operations and safety inspections by performing routine operator rounds of equipment and systems
  • Respond to system failures or emergencies, ensuring rapid resolution and minimal impact on operations
  • Champion and enforce adherence to OSHA, EPA, company safety protocols, and conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments
  • Improve the reliability of equipment and systems through collaboration with teammates and facilities engineers by identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce energy consumption, and enhance product quality
  • Participate in engineering design and analysis tasks to support ongoing improvement projects on the site
  • Work from schematics, piping and instrument diagrams, layouts, plans, and written/verbal instructions
  • Implement and sustain standard organizational practices and adhere to 5S practices

What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Electrical Engineering, or the equivalent in experience
  • Hands-on experience with boiler/steam systems, chemical refining, industrial operations and Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) a plus
  • Basic understanding of mechanical, electrical, SCADA and automated controls system operations
  • Open to schedule flexibility that will allow for a variety of shifts, including days, nights, and weekends
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills; ability to prepare and present reports and/or PowerPoint type presentations is essential
  • Competency in using most of the following software tools is desirable: Bluebeam, AutoCAD, Revit, BIM 360, Navisworks and excellent computer skills using the Microsoft Office platform (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, etc.)
  • Wearing Personal Protective Equipment, including but not limited to: safety glasses, safety shoes, bump caps, and adhering to prescribed safety rules and guidelines
  • Ability to wear a full-face air-purifying respirator while performing mild or moderate exertional tasks
  • Ability to sit, stand, and/or walk for 10+ hours per day. Lift at least 50 lbs., perform repetitive hand and wrist motions and sometimes may have to twist and bend body, ability to climb ladders/stairs, work in loud environment. Must be able to discern audible alarms
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods of time, including but not limited to: Stoop, lay, bend, reach, squat, kneel, crouch, twist, and crawl for extended periods of time. Climb and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolding or other high structures. Ability to find issues in a work process and receive safety signals using sight, touch, and hearing. Demonstrated ability to handle and manipulate tooling, quickly and accurately during new hire training and maintaining ability throughout employment. Potential exposure to confined spaces and hazardous materials
