This is a fixed term position that ends two years from the employee's start date.

Flexible work arrangements are available for this position, including the ability to work remotely within the United States. We would prefer a candidate located in the greater Austin area to be on campus for critical project meetings and client engagement opportunities.

This position provides life/work balance with typically a 40-hour work week and travel limited to training (e.g., conferences/courses).

Purpose

The Senior Project Manager in the Strategic Initiatives Office will coordinate complex IT initiatives that support the university's strategic efforts. This role will facilitate planning, execution, and communication across departments while promoting transparency and alignment throughout the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities Project Coordination:
  • Coordinate delivery across technical and functional teams, ensuring collaboration and alignment throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Identify cross-project dependencies, mitigate risks, and implement strategies to keep initiatives on track.
  • Lead recurring project meetings, manage action items, and maintain momentum across all workstreams.
  • Provide clear and consistent status updates, monitor workstream performance and deliverables to ensure high quality execution within established timelines and budgets.
  • Serve as a central point of contact for project updates, status reporting, and key stakeholder communication.
  • Foster an environment of continuous improvement by documenting lessons learned, refining internal project coordination practices, and sharing best practices across the team.
Portfolio Strategy:
  • Build project roadmaps aligned with institutional priorities.
  • Create executive dashboards and reports that highlight progress, challenges, and strategic considerations for leadership and governance groups.
  • Track progress against KPIs and benchmarks to support transparent and data-driven decision-making.
  • Support preparation of executive briefings, project charters, presentations, and governance documentation to ensure alignment and informed oversight.
Stakeholder Engagement:
  • Work closely with leaders and subject matter experts to define and refine project goals.
  • Act as the bridge between clients and technical teams to align expectations and execution.
  • Represent Enterprise Technology in campus-wide collaboration efforts.
  • Engage with external vendors and partners as needed to support initiative execution.
Resource and Budget Management:
  • Work with Engagement and Experience leaders and other Enterprise Technology leadership to identify and allocate necessary resources to support project execution.
  • Monitor project budgets, ensuring fiscal responsibility.
  • Provide input on resource planning and staffing needs.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in information technology, Business Administration, Project Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience managing IT projects or portfolios.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple, complex workstreams and initiatives simultaneously.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with project management tools and methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall).
  • U.S. Citizen, resident, or officially recognized asylee - Applicant selected will be subject to government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information at the level appropriate to the project requirements of the position.

Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a higher education environment.
  • Certification in project management (PMP, PRINCE2, or equivalent).
  • Familiarity with IT governance and change management processes.
Salary Range

$90,000 + depending on qualifications

Monday - Friday 8am - 5pm, occasional nights and weekends may be required.
