Langley Federal Credit Union has proudly served members since 1936, offering financial solutions to help individuals and families reach their goals. This summer, we're excited to continue our 10-week Summer Internship Program-an opportunity for motivated college juniors, seniors and graduates to gain hands-on experience in the financial industry. Full Time (40 hours/week) attendance will be required on site in Newport News, VA, from Monday June 1 - Friday August 7.

Internship Overview

The Learning & Development Intern will support the Learning & Leadership Development team in designing, adapting, and evaluating learning experiences that enable employee performance across the credit union. This role provides hands-on experience in instructional design, curriculum development, learning technology, and learning impact measurement within a regulated financial services environment.

The intern will collaborate with instructional designers, facilitators, and business stakeholders to apply adult learning principles and instructional design methodologies to real-world learning initiatives. This internship offers hands-on experience while contributing to meaningful outcomes that support employee capability and member service excellence.

Responsibilities



  • Collaborates with internal business partners and subject matter experts to conduct training needs assessments.
  • Actively participates on project teams to support the development and delivery of training for specific business initiatives and strategies.
  • Utilizing instructional systems design and adult learning principles, designs and develops learning and development solutions as defined by the Langley People Strategy and the enterprise learning and development plan.
  • Works to ensure that training solutions meet business goals and optimal performance outcomes.
  • Creates supporting material/media (audio, video, simulations, role plays, games, etc.) for new and existing training programs.
  • Applies tested instructional design theories, practice, and methods including ADDIE.
  • Utilizes the Learning Management System (LMS) for effective training and development.
  • Evaluates learning effectiveness and implements program improvements to ensure that they reflect industry best practice and meet organizational needs.
  • Performs quality assurance on all learning and development materials to ensure they reflect Langley culture, are technically accurate, and instructionally sound.


Qualifications



  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Learning & Development, Education, Human Resources, Organizational Development, Psychology, or a related field
  • Foundational knowledge of instructional design, curriculum development, and lesson planning
  • Strong written communication skills with attention to clarity and learner experience
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work collaboratively


Preferred Qualifications



  • Familiarity with eLearning or content authoring tools (e.g., Articulate Rise, Storyline, Canva, Vyond)
  • Basic understanding of adult learning theory and learning evaluation concepts
  • Experience creating short-form or microlearning training content
  • Interest in working within a regulated industry such as financial services or credit unions
