Job Description

QuidelOrtho is looking for an Emerging Technology Intern that wants to spend their summer of 2026 working towards our mission: Changing Lives, One Test at a Time. Interns will have the opportunity to gain knowledge and develop their skills all while contributing to key company projects and initiatives. Our team will help students apply their educational background and broaden their knowledge base within their role and learn more about working in the medical device/biotech industry. Interns will work with a mentor(s) on a guided and impactful project and will be able to collaborate with and be part of a supportive and dedicated team.

The Emerging Technology Intern will support the development and implementation of internal software solutions, including AI-powered applications, web development and cloud-based systems. The role will involve contributing to projects such as API integrations, web applications and Azure/AWS serverless functions. Working closely with cross-functional teams, the intern will gain hands-on experience in full-stack development, cloud computing and modern software architecture. This position provides an opportunity to enhance programming skills, learn industry best practices and contribute to real-world software products that drive business value.

This Internship is a full-time (40 hours per week) paid program for 10-12 weeks.

Session 1: June 1st through August 31st

Session 2: July 6th through September 21st

Office Location: San Diego, CA- Students must be in the area for duration of the program. QuidelOrtho is unable to provide housing accommodations.

The Responsibilities
  • Develop andmaintaininternal software solutions including web applications,integrationsand cloud-based services.

  • Support proof-of-concept development and feature implementation for business applications.

  • Collaborate with engineering teams and stakeholders to understand business requirements and translate them into technical solutions.

  • Participate in weekly standups and development processes while contributing to code reviews, testing, and documentation.

  • Complete at least oneend-to-end softwarePOCprojectthat addresses a specific business need and is ready for pilot development.

  • Createtechnical documentation for assigned features and/or projects.

  • Participate in thedevelopmentlifecycle by contributing clean, functional code through proper Git workflows and collaborative code review processes.

  • The intern will presentaPowerPoint presentation on his/her work to a cross-functional group.

  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned.

The Individual

Required:

  • Currently pursuing or recentlycompletedabachelor's degree inComputerScience, Information Technology, Data Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.

  • Familiarity with programming languages (Python, Java, C/C++) and cloud platforms (AWS,Databricks).

  • Fundamental knowledge of data structures, algorithms,and software development principles.

  • Familiarity with or willingness to learnversion control systems (Git),databasesor web development frameworks.

  • Solidanalytical and problem-solving skills with a passion for innovation and technology.

  • Strongwritten and verbalcommunication skills, with the ability to collaborate in a dynamicteamenvironment.

  • Mustbe at least 18 years old

  • Studentmust start on June 1stor July 6th

  • Must be able to complete a consecutive10-12 weekinternship

  • Must have work authorization in the United States at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.

Preferred:

  • Experience with Agile/Scrum development processes and testing frameworks.

  • Experience with data analysis, automation, AI/ML or emerging technologies through coursework, projects or internships

The Work Environment

No strenuous physical activity, though occasional light lifting of files and related materials is required. 30% of time in meetings, working with team, or talking on the phone, 70% of the time at the desk on computer, doing analytical work.

Salary Transparency

The salary range for this position takes into account a wide range of factors including education, experience, knowledge, skills, geography, and abilities of the candidate, in addition to internal equity and alignment with market data. The salary range for current Freshman, rising Sophomore is $18.00/hour; Sophomore, rising Junior is $20.00/hour; Junior, rising senior is $23.00/hour to $26.00/hour; Senior, enrolled in school for fall 2026 is $25.00/hour to $28.00/hour; or currently enrolled Graduate, MBD, PhD program is $28.00/hour to $30.00/hour. At QuidelOrtho, compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
