About the Job

This position is a Temporary & Casual Employee classified position for up to 14 hours (maximum) of work per week through the duration of employment.

Location: On Campus, Elmer L. Andersen Library Suite 113.

Schedule: 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday - Friday. Flexible scheduling these days.

This position will be assisting with collections processing and special projects within the Children's Literature Research Collections, in the Archives and Special Collections department.

Responsibilities 100%

  • Archival Processing & Description (40%)
    • Process archival collections, including accessioning, sorting, and arranging historical records, applying project-specific criteria under the direction of professional staff.
    • Create finding aids in ArchivesSpace and develop metadata for digital collections as appropriate.

  • Digital Exhibit (StoryMap) Work (25%):
    • Edit and review StoryMap content for digital exhibits.

  • Blog & Public-Facing Content (10%)
    • Create accessible blog content; edit, proofread, and review materials under the direction of the curator.

  • Digitization (10%)
    • Scan archival materials for curator-led projects, digital exhibits, and research initiatives.

  • Research Support & Historical Research (5%)
    • Search the library website and Archives and Special Collections finding aids to assist researchers and support research projects.
    • Conduct historical research following established guidelines for exhibits and research inquiries.

  • Curriculum & Instructional Content Development (5%)
    • Create lesson plans using archival materials under the direction of the curator.

  • Retrieval & Material Handling (5%)
    • Retrieve materials from storage in accordance with safety procedures, including preparing call slips and pulling materials from storage.

**This position is not eligible for H-1B visa sponsorship.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Basic office skills (filing, alphabetizing, sorting, accurate word processing).
  • Experience copyediting, design, and proofreading blog postings in an accessible format.
  • Ability to create curriculum based on archival materials from Children's Literature Archives.
  • Ability to serve and interact with customers and guests in a pleasant and accurate manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate well with both verbal and written skills.
  • Attention to detail in an environment with repetitive tasks.
  • Ability to use Drupal in an ADA/Title II compliant way for electronic exhibits, experience with StoryMaps to create, edit and update digital exhibits.
  • Ability to use the following technology: Microsoft (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), Adobe (InDesign, Photoshop, Acrobat), Canva, G-Suite.
  • Ability to apply established protocols in a timely manner.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Experience in Archives and Special collections.
  • Bachelor's or equivalent training/experience.

Preferred:

  • Ability to demonstrate problem-solving skills, multi-tasking, and independent decision making.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Undergraduate degree or coursework in English Literature and/or Education.
  • Interest in continuing in Library Science.
  • A basic understanding and interest in the history of children's literature.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff.

Physical Requirements, with or without reasonable accommodation (if applicable):

  • Ability to move and transport boxes up to 40 pounds without assistance for archival material retrieval.
Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $18.00-$20.00/hour; depending on education/qualifications/experience.
