About the Job

Position Summary

The Outpatient Clinic Assistant provides hands-on clinical support in collaboration with nursing staff to deliver safe, efficient, and patient-centered care. Performs patient intake and clinical documentation in the electronic health record (EHR), including histories, physicals, demographics, and insurance verification. Prepares and maintains examination rooms and clinical equipment in accordance with infection control standards. Assists with patient flow by escorting patients, chaperoning sensitive examinations or procedures, and transporting laboratory specimens. Reviews patient charts for clinical completeness and accuracy. May perform electrocardiograms (EKGs) and assist with sterile technical procedures as needed.

Overview of Responsibilities

  • Greets patients and provides care and friendliness to all patients; respect patients' identities and preferred pronouns, etc.
  • Completes defined work in a timely and professional manner, supports on-going process improvement and organizational/department changes.
  • Reviews and completes patient information as required by the rooming process and competently enters information into the patient medical record/electronic health record (EHR).
  • Prepares clinic rooms and ensures the room is clean, supplies and equipment are stocked and ready for use.
  • Assists with scheduling appointments, texts, x-rays, consultations, etc.
  • Transports specimens to the Boynton Health Lab.
  • Chaperones during sensitive exams or procedures, as needed/requested.
  • Escorts patients to other clinic areas within Boynton Health, as needed/requested.
  • May perform EKG and other sterile tech duties.
  • Meets department expectations and follows the defined guidelines and processes of the department; Keeps the supervisor informed of any issues with systems or procedures, etc.
  • Assists team members in onboarding, training and performing tasks to promote the smooth and effective functions of the work priorities.
  • Attends and contributes in staff meetings, classes, workshops and in-service education.
  • Maintains compliance with applicable OSHA, HIPAA, MERTKA, and confidentiality policies.
  • Adheres to University and Boynton Health policies and procedures.
  • Participate in Quality Improvement projects and safety/emergency drills, as assigned.
  • Performs other duties consistent with the job classification and position description.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Exceptional customer service and patient relationship skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, complemented by strong organizational abilities.
  • Written and oral English proficiency
  • Ability to learn various computer applications and demonstrate proficiency.
  • Proficient at managing multiple priorities and interruptions in a multitask work environment.
  • Experience working with individuals from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Ability to work independently and part of a team.
  • Demonstrated dependability (e.g., time & attendance) and reliable transportation to and from work; available to work on site Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM - 4:30 PM (up to 40 hours per week).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficient at using an electronic medical or health record system.
  • Experience in a multicultural medical or social services setting.
  • Strong knowledge of primary care office operations.
  • Bi/multilingual.

Physical Requirements

Primary care clinic assistants must possess the physical stamina to stand and walk for extended periods, frequently bend, lift, and assist patients. Key requirements include fine motor skills for operating equipment, typing, and performing clinical tasks, along with sufficient vision and hearing to assess patient needs accurately. Oral and written communications with customers requires adequate speech, vision, and hearing.

Pay and Benefits

Hourly Pay Range: $22.56-$24.70; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment: 100% Appointment (40 hours per week)
