Symetra has an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Senior Infrastructure Engineer I!

About the role

As a Senior Infrastructure Engineer I, you will be joining the Server Support Team where you will be solving complex business needs by delivering quality solutions with minimal guidance. You'll contribute to design elements, leverage engineering standards, and elevate team processes while bringing your strong problem solving skills and mentoring experience; strengthening the overall technical capability of the team.

What you will do



  • Drive timely Incident and Problem resolution in alignment with service level agreements, maintaining strong urgency and ownership while leading or approving thorough root cause analyses.


  • Administer and support hybrid cloud infrastructure, with a solid focus onAWS Cloud operations, including:


    • EC2, EBS, S3, VPC, IAM, CloudWatch, and AWS Backup
    • Operational monitoring, cost optimization, security standards, and availability/recovery design
    • Integration of on-prem infrastructure with AWS (hybrid connectivity, backup, DR, and migration scenarios).



  • Maintain, monitor, and restore virtual machine and cloud workloads, including backups, snapshots, replication, and disaster recovery, using tools like Cohesity or equivalent cloud native platforms.
  • Define and deliver infrastructure metrics and targets to ensure platforms consistently meet or exceed SLA, performance, availability, and cost efficiency standards.
  • Manage SSL/TLS certificates, including issuing, installing, renewing, and ensuring compliance with security and certificate authority requirements.
  • Administer Active Directory services, including users, DFS, DNS, and Certificate Authority.
  • Monitor on-prem and cloud environments, identify abnormal patterns or trends, and drive swift remediation through internal teams or service providers.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation supporting critical infrastructure across data center and cloud environments.
  • Serve as an asset lifecycle steward by maintaining lifecycle roadmaps and proactively identifying upgrade or replacement needs based on capability, alignment, version, age, or vendor end support.
  • Act as a liaison between application teams and the managed service provider, partnering to address asset aging, upgrades, end life needs, and implementing tactical capacity plans as demand evolves.

Compensation

Salary Range: $106,400 - $177,300 plus eligibility for the company annual bonus program.

Who You Are:



  • High School Diploma is required, plus a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a related field preferred
  • You have 6+ years of relevant experience supporting infrastructure in hybrid on-prem and cloud environments.
  • You bring strong Incident and Problem Management skills and can lead or validate detailed cause analysis efforts.
  • You have deep experience with AWS (EC2, EBS, S3, FSx, Route 53, VPC, IAM, CloudWatch, AWS Backup) and hybrid cloud environments, including on-prem integration.
  • You are proficient in maintaining and restoring virtual machine and cloud workloads using backups, snapshots, replication, disaster recovery, and tools like Cohesity or similar platforms.
  • You can define and deliver infrastructure metrics and targets to ensure systems meet or exceed SLA, performance, availability, and cost efficiency expectations.
  • You have hands-on experience managing SSL/TLS certificates and administering Active Directory, including users, DFS, DNS, and Certificate Authority.
  • You excel at monitoring on-prem and cloud environments, spotting abnormal patterns, and driving swift remediation.
  • You are comfortable participating in an on-call rotation, managing lifecycle roadmaps, and proactively identifying upgrade or replacement needs.
  • You collaborate effectively with application teams and service providers to address asset aging, upgrades, end-life requirements, and workload needs.
