Our Gridtern Program provides current college students the ability to gain practical experience within the energy industry. Your summer will begin on Monday, June 15, 2026, and will be filled with meaningful work experiences, professional development, networking opportunities, community involvement, and most importantly, have fun!

What You'll Do

Our Safety Policy and Programs department within the New York Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) organization oversees occupational safety within our New York service territory. In conjunction with the safety data management and reporting team, this team ensures the timely and accurate delivery of information in adaptable formats, empowering business leaders and stakeholders to make informed decisions that drive safety performance and reduce incidents throughout the organization. As they collect, analyze, and transform safety data into accurate, digestible insights that highlight key trends, metrics, and drivers, they help to enable stakeholders to take greater action. By supporting through the design, development and maintenance of clear dashboards, key performance indicators (KPIs), and effective storytelling of the data across multiple platforms and communication channels, they help to provide governance and the oversight needed to further strengthen safety programs.

As a Gridtern, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in data analytics and visualization. You will support monthly reporting, respond to data requests, and help upgrade key dashboards while performing in-depth trend analyses. You will also work with data from multiple systems building data pipelines that connect platforms like Power BI, Snowflake, and the Cority incident management system turning raw information into clear, meaningful insights that make a real impact. You may design and launch strategic safety communications and campaigns to drive stakeholder engagement. By the end of your internship, you will have a deeper understanding of how to use real-world data to influence safety practices, enhance decision-making, and make a significant impact on workplace safety overall.

You will be based in Syracuse, NY working in a Hybrid format for the summer. You must reside within a commutable distance to the designated work location during this period.

What You'll Need
  • Availability to start on the program start date, June 15, 2026, and work full-time (40 hours a week) for the duration of the summer
  • Must be registered as a full-time student and continue your education full-time through the Fall 2026 semester
  • Pursuing a Bachelor's, or Master's degree in Data Analytics, Business Analytics, Data Science, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence or related majors
  • Have accumulated 18 or more credits and be at least 18 years of age
  • Possess work authorization that does not now or in the future require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the United States (including CPT & OPT)

Salary Range

19.00 - $28.00 an hour

Candidates will be assessed and provided offers based on major, degree type, and class year. Our Gridtern Program does not offer relocation, housing assistance, or public transportation reimbursement for Gridterns; however, we can provide a list of resources to utilize in making your arrangements.

Please note that as a Gridtern, you must reside within our existing footprint, which includes Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Maine, Rhode Island, and Vermont. You must also reside within a reasonable, commutable distance to your assigned primary office.
