Find your superpower with the Graduate Development Program

National Grid's Graduate Development Program (GDP) is a year-long development program for recent college graduates who aspire to take on future leadership roles in a dynamic, ever-changing industry. Graduates will shape the future of National Grid. Bringing fresh thinking, new perspectives, and exploring with energy, we'll give you real responsibility and an opportunity to move with purpose from day one - putting the power to supercharge your career in your hands.

Graduates start their careers at National Grid with an in-depth 3-week in-person Orientation which gives you exposure to all parts of the company, allows you to network with your Graduate cohort, GDP alumni, and senior leaders, and provides you with the opportunity to travel throughout our service territory in the northeast US. Following Orientation, you'll begin working in full-time position outlined below and take part in ongoing development activities including quarterly development sessions, active mentorship, and a Hackathon Project.

About the Position

Are you ready to dive into the world of Fleet Engineering and make a real impact at National Grid? As an Associate Engineer in Fleet Asset Management, you'll help keep our fleet running smoothly, sustainably, and safely. In this role you'll provide engineering support across the full lifecycle of fleet vehicles and equipment - from vehicle specifications, sourcing and acquisition, through maintenance, incident analysis, and disposal. The position combines field work in vehicle yards with crossfunctional collaboration across operations, procurement, and suppliers and manufacturers. This is the perfect role for you if you are passionate about engineering, sustainability, problem-solving, and vehicles!

This role is based in Syracuse, NY and may require occasional in-office days for team collaboration, meetings, and training as needed as well as frequent travel for site visits in the Northeast and Midwest. Role requirements are subject to change based on business needs.

What You'll Do

In this role you'll work on cutting-edge vehicle tech and help shape our green future. You will:

  • Plan and manage the vehicle and equipment replacement program and vehicle & equipment acquisition process.
  • Interpret and evaluate vendor bids.
  • Participate in vehicle and equipment committee teams in the development and improvement of fleet standards, guidelines and specifications.
  • Research new vehicle technology; EV, PHEV, hydrogen, fuel cell, etc. to continuously improve against the company's greenhouse gas strategy and meet future emission requirements.
  • Monitor manufacturer vendor performance, ensure company expectations & order details are being met, correct deficiencies.
  • Coordinate and perform compliance review and acceptance testing at vendor facilities and in the field.
  • Maintain knowledge of applicable environmental, state and federal regulations (DOT, OSHA, ANSI, SAE, FMVSS, etc.) and ensure compliance
What You'll Need
  • Bachelor or Master's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or Industrial Engineering from an accredited institution
  • Graduated between May 2025 and June 2026
  • Ability to begin the National Grid Graduate Program on July 13, 2026
  • Valid driver's license required with a safe driving history that meets National Grid's Safe Driver policy
  • Work authorization that does not now or in the future require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the United States (such as sponsorship for an H-1B, TN, O, L, STEM OPT, or other employment-based work authorization)

  • Interest in working with vehicles/trucks/auto equipment.

Salary Range

Syracuse, NY $62,900 - $81,400 a year

Please note US Colleagues must reside within our existing footprint, which includes Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Maine, Rhode Island and Vermont. As a National Grid employee, you should also reside within a reasonable, commutable distance to your assigned primary office.
