POSITION SPECIFICS

The Arguelles research team in the College of Engineering at Penn State is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Assistant Research Professor to join our lab in the field of elastic wave propagation. The position will involve development of custom experimental systems for ultrasonic testing and simulations of wave propagation in complex media.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop LabView VIs to control various ultrasonic setups

  • Analysis of ultrasonic data with Matlab or Python, including development of custom codes for processing

  • Perform numerical simulations of wave propagation in complex media

  • Draft and submit manuscripts from completed research and assist in the review of manuscripts drafted by students in the group

  • Draft and submit research proposals on novel topics related to wave propagation in complex media

  • Collaborate with students and postdoctoral scholars on closely related projects pertaining to wave propagation in complex media

Requirements:

  • PhD in engineering science and mechanics, mechanical engineering, or a strongly related field

  • Experience with LabView, Matlab, or equivalent software

  • Experience developing custom experimental setups for ultrasonic testing, or equivalent skills

  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team

  • Strong record of publications in a related area
