Office of Research and Innovation (ORI) at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC). The Office of Research and Innovation (ORI) is a core element of the university's research infrastructure. Our mission is to support the scientific, scholarly, and creative endeavors of the faculty and staff at UMKC. This role works with principal investigators, fiscal officers, and post-award representatives to manage and monitor subawards issued by UMKC, so our researchers can focus their time and talent on their research. Additionally, this role is responsible for ensuring that university and federal regulations are met and award funds are documented to ensure sound and appropriate financial management. The goal of ORI is to function as a highly trained, customer services-oriented organization whose primary purpose is to support externally funded research and sponsored activities within the university community. ORI has responsibility for pre-award and award administration and is the institutional unit authorized by the Curators of the University of Missouri to submit proposals to and accept awards from external entities for financial support in the form of grants, contracts, and cooperative agreements Job Description
The Subaward Specialist is responsible for the administration and oversight of outgoing subawards issued under sponsored research awards. This position supports the full lifecycle of subawards-from proposal stage through closeout-ensuring compliance with federal regulations (including 2 CFR 200 Uniform Guidance), sponsor requirements, institutional policies, and applicable export control and foreign engagement requirements. Position will be housed within the Award Management unit of Sponsored Projects, and report to the Director of Research Administration. The Subaward Specialist serves as a key liaison between principal investigators (PIs), departmental administrators, subrecipient institutions, and central research administration. Responsibilities include:
Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 4 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary. Preferred Qualifications
2 (two) or more years experience in a research administration role, preferably in an academic setting. Anticipated Hiring Range
The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $52,915 - $54,915 annually. Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
