Network Engineer (RTSS)

Description

Leidos' Defense Sector is seeking a Network Engineer (RTSS) to support an Army Program focused on delivering advanced capabilities for operational decision-making in complex and dynamic environments. The Network Engineer (RTSS) is responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting network infrastructure that enables realtime systems and services across the organization. This role focuses on delivering highly available, low-latency, and deterministic network performance to support mission-critical applications. The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise in routing, switching, QoS, and time-sensitive networking, along with the ability to troubleshoot complex issues in fast-paced, high-reliability environments.

Locations include Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD; Fort Belvoir, FL; Tampa, FL

This position is contingent upon program award, anticipated late March.

This role is open to candidates with a wide range of experience levels. The scope of the position and corresponding compensation will be aligned with the candidate's background and expertise.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Design, deploy, and maintain network solutions supporting realtime systems and services (RTSS).
• Configure and optimize routing, switching, and transport technologies to ensure low latency and high availability.
• Implement and manage QoS policies, traffic shaping, and prioritization for timesensitive applications.
• Monitor network performance, analyze traffic patterns, and proactively resolve issues impacting realtime workloads.
• Support realtime communication protocols such as RTP, SIP, RTCP, and PTP.
• Maintain network documentation, diagrams, and configuration standards.
• Collaborate with crossfunctional teams to support application requirements and infrastructure changes.
• Perform rootcause analysis and lead resolution efforts for complex network incidents.
• Ensure compliance with security policies, network hardening standards, and changemanagement processes.
• Participate in oncall rotation and provide escalation support for critical network events.

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field with 3 - 6+ years of experience or a Master's degree with less than or 2+ years of experience. Additional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
• Active Secret clearance with the ability to obtain a TS/SCI.
• Experience in network engineering or operations.
• Strong understanding of TCP/IP, UDP, multicast, VLANs, and subnetting.
• Handson experience with enterprise routing and switching platforms (Cisco, Juniper, Arista, etc.).
• Experience configuring QoS, traffic engineering, and performancesensitive network features.
• Familiarity with realtime communication protocols and deterministic networking concepts.
• Proficiency with network monitoring and analysis tools (Wireshark, NetFlow, SNMP, etc.).
• Ability to troubleshoot complex network issues in highavailability environments.
• Strong documentation and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Industry certifications such as CCNP, CCIE, JNCIS, JNCIP, or equivalent.
• Experience with PTP (Precision Time Protocol), NTP, or other timesynchronization technologies.
• Knowledge of SDN technologies, automation, and scripting (Python, Ansible).
• Experience supporting realtime systems in telecom, financial trading, industrial control, or defense environments.
• Familiarity with firewalls, IDS/IPS, and network security best practices.
• Exposure to cloud networking (AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Experience with MPLS, Segment Routing, or advanced traffic engineering architectures.
