Tesla Midwest Automation is a fast-paced cutting-edge engineering group, automating the production of Tesla's latest, most advanced products. Our group is tasked with finding the limits of physics in the machines we create. Tesla holds an extremely high bar for excellence and is looking for someone wanting to push themselves to their limits of knowledge and keep going. If you live to turn bold ideas into reality that will change the world, this is the place for you. You should possess humility and decisiveness: humility to ask and learn from everyone, and decisiveness to make a call when sometimes you don't have all the information you need.

What You'll Do
  • Able to work independently on stations or large sections with minimal oversight to Conceptualize, design, and detail mechanical components and assemblies using SolidWorks for automation cells, robotic end effectors
  • Work with vendors to select and size all commercial components for mechanical designs such as pneumatics, motors, gearboxes, and linear motion devices
  • Use calculations and FEA analysis on all appropriate parts and assemblies to ensure
  • Understand and apply all necessary Tesla standards to ensure any solutions comply and provide calculations and justifications for decisions
  • Create complete and clean drawing packages for all designs with BOM and all appropriate assembly information
  • Participate in assembly and debug of systems on our production floor and learn firsthand what it takes to build an automation system and all the nuances of good machine design
  • Travel with the machine to the various Giga factories across the US to install and commission your machines. Could be a 24-7 weekend sprint for an upgrade or small installation or a 3-month installation of a massive new production line

What You'll Bring
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to conceptualize and create mechanical designs from concepts
  • Proficiency in using solid modeling CAD design software
  • Hands on experience with prototyping (3D printing, machining, hobby projects)
