Pay Rate: $98,200 to $122,750 per year.

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

Wastewater

The position is accountable for the oversight of our Livingston Complex water processes; incoming from the City of Livingston, Water Pre-treatment, through our Biological Nutrient Removal System. Under the direction of the manger, the Superintendent will provide leadership and supervision to certified water operators, pre-treatment operators, and maintenance technicians. The individual will be responsible for monitoring, controlling, testing and troubleshooting processes and equipment to maintain regulatory compliance with City, State, and Federal waste water discharge requirements. Responsibilities include monitoring water usage, oversight of DAF, BNR, maintenance of waste water systems, backflow maintenance and certifications, discharge pond and storm pond monitoring, and quarterly/annual water board reporting.

Water Treatment

The individual will oversee the boiler maintenance and operations. Includes maintain regulatory compliance with the state, maintain monthly monitoring, and annual inspection compliance. Monitor the operation of the RTO and incinerator, and maintain environmental compliance. Manage cooling tower chemical treatment program and routine testing programs. Responsibilities will also include monitor and report gas and water usage for the cooling towers and boilers. Supervise the PAA, ozone, and chlorinated systems for the chicken processing plants. Evaluate and monitor daily testing to remain in compliance with USDA standards. Continue to optimize performance to reduce cost and chemical usage. Participating in water conservation, and provide continuous efforts to reduce water usage.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Provide oversight, direction and facilitate projects for the Waste Water Treatment System for the Livingston Complex through the following means:



  • Provide supervision to Waste Water Pre-Treatment operators, BNR operators, Waste Water mechanics, Boiler mechanics, Water technicians, making independent judgments and decisions involving daily plant operations regarding waste water, water conservation and reclamation processes
  • Plans, organizes, supervises, trains and evaluates Waste Water and Water Treatment Plant personnel engaged in the operation, inspection and maintenance of plant facilities
  • Supervises safety training and enforces safety regulations. Participates in chemical change-out as necessary
  • Provides oversight of a class 4 BNR plant, and certified operators
  • Responsible for creating and maintaining weekly work schedules and daily work assignments
  • Develops and implements procedures for record keeping data collection, operations logs and submission of reports to appropriate governmental authorities.
  • Supervises and conducts water sample collections, laboratory testing, recording and reporting of required Water Treatment Plant reports to Federal, State, County and local agencies; ensures compliance of all Water Treatment Plant operations and programs with governmental standards and regulations
  • Manages the collection of water samples throughout the facility and ensures laboratory tests are performed routinely; evaluate the data provided to ensure compliance with waste water and reclamation systems
  • Evaluate and monitor BNR lab results. Providing documentation on COD, TSS, pH, and total nitrogen
  • Monitor effluent pond level and discharge permits, and maintain compliance with City, State and Federal requirements
  • Evaluate and monitor operational data to plot operational trends and make decisions regarding system design and modifications based on the data including water usage trends, maintenance needed to address usage, conservation and reclamation
  • Manages daily routines, titrations, and data collection for DAF, BNR, Boilers, Cooling towers and water technicians
  • Oversee the dewatering operations at BNR and DAF, and communicate logistics for solids removal
  • Maintain environmental compliance and close communication with Environmental affairs
  • Assist in the Waste Water Plant's budget preparation and administration
  • Manage the weekly budget for Chemical cost for BNR, DAF, Boiler and cooling towers
  • Analyzes and evaluates operations and maintenance procedures and initiates and recommends improvements
  • Oversee the preventative maintenance program for the DAF, BNR, and boiler systems
  • Purchases and monitors use of equipment, supplies and materials needed for the operation of Water Treatment facility
  • Assists in the long range planning, development and operational organization of the Waste Water processes
  • Provide oversight for the operations of valves and gates; pumps, engines, and electric motors to control and adjust flow and treatment processes
  • Responsible for overseeing the backflow preventer throughout the Livingston facility. Having regular contact with the vendors to ensure the equipment is maintained and certified as required
  • Maintain annual certifications on specific flow meters for the facility
  • Evaluate and monitor cooling tower and boiler chemical test results and maintain annual documentation of the condition of the equipment


Requirements:



  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision
  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be trained in lock-out tag-out and safe work practices
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience as a Wastewater Plant Operator with Waste Water treatment Plant Operator certification
  • Must have 3-5 years of supervisory experience overseeing waste water systems ( DA, BNR, PAA, Chlorine, etc.)
  • Bachelor's Degree in Maintenance Field preferred
  • Must be literate in Microsoft Applications, including Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Must be able to utilize data to plan and execute and monitor success of projects
  • Must communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Must be able to work independently with little direction from upper level management
  • Must be able to operate hand and power tools, vehicles and heavy equipment
  • Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to tolerate extreme fluctuations in temperature while performing essentials functions
  • Must be able to submit and pass criminal background check
  • Must be able to bend, stoop walk and stand for prolonged periods of time
  • Must be able to climb and work from ladders and in confined spaces safely
  • Must be able to work from high altitudes, catwalks and roof
  • Must be a trained First Responder - Level A suit qualified
  • Must be a trained Haz-Mat responder at 40-hour level
  • Must be certified in Confined Space training
  • Must be current on CPR/First Aid certification
  • Must be certified in Confined Space training
  • Must be trained in lock-out tag-out and safe work practices
  • Must be able to lift over 50 pounds
  • Must be able to work on wet concrete floors
  • Must be able to work overtime, weekends and times dictated by production equipment requirements/needs
