| Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
ITS Infrastructure & Operations (I&O) manages the
ITS data centers and provides around-the-clock support for
ITS business computing activities. I&O also supports and maintains the infrastructure for network, data communications transport services, and campus desktop computers, and maintains the infrastructure for the operating systems for non-research
ITS servers and for disaster recovery and business continuity activities for
ITS. I&O also manages the enterprise-wide IT Service Management platform ServiceNow. |
| Position Summary |
Join the Networking Group at
UNC Chapel Hill, where we are entrusted with maintaining robust internet connectivity and data communication for one of the largest networks in the United States. Our network includes more than 3,000 switches and nearly 12,000 access points.
We are seeking a dedicated Networking Analyst to join our Network Deployment team. This role places a strong emphasis on delivering exceptional customer service, including resolving customer connectivity issues and installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining networking equipment, software, and hardware. The Networking Analyst reports directly to the Manager of Networking Deployment.
In this position, you will collaborate with a dynamic team of network analysts to support the day-to-day maintenance and expansion of our extensive campus data network. Responsibilities include hands-on technical work, such as installing and maintaining equipment, as well as analytical tasks focused on troubleshooting data networking electronics and related systems.
The Network Deployment group is part of a larger department that also includes Network Engineering and Network Architecture, offering a diverse and collaborative work environment. |
| Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Computer Engineering, Electronics, or related technical degree from an appropriately accredited institution; or a
- Bachelor's degree from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of networking related experience such as network design, analysis or network management; or
- Associate's degree in Electronics or Networking Technology and one year of networking related experience: or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Journey level requires an additional one year of experience.
- Advanced level requires an additional two years of experience. |
| Management Preferences |
Advanced layer 1 knowledge which will include: cabling and fiber installation standards, troubleshooting, experience with a fiber meter/scope, familiarity with connector type.
Solid understanding on layer 2 and layer 3 network fundamentals.
Experience in working with 802.11 wireless technologies
Experience with Extreme, Cisco, Aruba and Arista equipment.
Experience with network gear life cycling (planning and execution) |

| Special Physical/Mental Requirements |
Must be able to lift or move up to 60 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation, and ascend/descend ladders. Must have or be able to obtain a valid NC Driver's License, as the duties require driving a State vehicle. |
