Position Summary:

This role provides analytical and operational support for a centralized security operations center. Represent Duke Energy ESCC as the first point of contact for security events. Utilizes sophisticated security systems and technologies for intrusion analysis, subtle event detection, video analytics, and incident management. Requires ability to assess/investigate security events to determine associated threats and appropriate response. Conducts in-depth threat analyses and subsequent reporting to both internal and external stakeholders. Requires independent decision making in a high stress environment, and the ability to lead team to manage multiple priorities with consistent results. Performs complex analyses using a variety of automated and manual systems, and through communications with key internal and external entities. Assesses incoming threat streams to develop accurate conclusions on security events at monitored sites. Utilizes strong critical thinking skills to evaluate suspicious activities and pre-operational indicators occurring at or near company sites. Functions as a decision support for Console Operator personnel. Manages emergency notification procedures in accordance with company response plans. Manages multiple electronic access control systems to monitor and facilitate response for automated alarm systems. Works closely with law enforcement and government agencies to monitor the threat and provide the appropriate security response. Primary responsibility for responding to emergency contingencies for all company facilities. Ensures regulatory compliance for access control systems. Conduct planned and unplanned Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS)/drone surveillance missions in support security missions. Provides oversight to shift staff performing Unmanned Aerial systems surveillance missions.

Responsibilities:
  • Works with Console Operators, construct accurate and detailed reports, proofread reports and alarm investigations.

  • Assist in maintaining ESCC Workplace standards.

  • Utilize sophisticated security systems and technologies for intrusion analysis, subtle event detection, video analytics, and incident management.

  • Manage multiple electronic access control systems to monitor and facilitate response for automated alarm systems.

  • Interact with corporate investigators, law enforcement, and government agencies to monitor the threat and provide the appropriate security response.

  • Provide input for ESCC team performance evaluations/coaching opportunities.

  • Act as shift lead when Supervisor is unavailable.

  • Assist in developing or updating internal procedures.

  • Pilot Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), act as a Visual Observer (VO), or Payload Operator (PO) in accordance with federal, state, and local laws as well as company directives

  • Performs pre-mission planning, flight notifications, automation planning, Pre-job briefings, risk assessments, debriefings, and post-mission reporting in accordance with the Flight Operations Manual (FOM)

  • Provides oversight to shift staff performing Unmanned Aerial systems surveillance missions, other non-flying tasks supporting the execution of UAS Missions and the continued integration of the technology at Duke Energy

  • Accurately reports flight time, maintenance discrepancies, and accidents in accordance with federal regulations and guidance as well as company policy

Required/Basic Qualifications:
  • High School/GED degree

  • 3 years related work experience

  • FAA, Part 107, Remote Pilot Certificate, within 6 months

Desired Qualifications:
  • Associates degree in Criminal Justice

  • In addition to desired degree, 5 years related work experience

  • Certified Protection Professional

Additional Preferred Qualifications:
  • Superior written and oral communication skills

  • Excellent collaborator

  • Flexible

  • Previous experience in Security Operations Center, or large-scale dispatch operations

  • Previous experience on the following systems: Physical Access Control Systems (PACS), CCTV, Microsoft Office Suite, and any other systems used by ESCC at the time of application

  • Previous experience in Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS)/drone operations, Security Operations Center, or large-scale dispatch operations

  • Demonstrated proficiency on the following systems: Physical Access Control Systems (PACS), CCTV, Case Management tools, Microsoft Office Suite, and any other systems used by ESCC at the time of application

  • Knowledge and experience dealing with issues associated with security at an energy company and issues associated with critical infrastructure protection

  • Effective listening and clear communication skills and the ability to interact with external and/or internal customers in a professional, courteous, and empathetic manner

  • Experience conducting basic interviews to determine facts, such as in a regulatory, law enforcement or security environment.

  • Experience monitoring public incident/social media tools such as Dataminr, WorldAware or like tools/applications

  • Ability to build trust and loyalty with customers, handle confidential information and act with integrity always

  • Willingness to work in an environment that requires 100% phone/computer-based customer interaction

  • Ability to multi-task and navigate between multiple computer systems quickly and accurately while maintaining a dialogue with customers and meeting performance expectations

  • Driver's license; must be able to pass drug screen and background check

Specific Requirements:
