Summary:

Provides legal support for an Energy Transfer affiliate across all areas of the U.S. related to environmental remediation and toxic tort litigation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support various legal activities of the company related to environmental law
  • Assist with responses to government agency inquiries and proceedings
  • Provide support in contract review and negotiation of environmental-related issues affecting the company's operations
  • Assist in managing toxic tort cases, including those related to asbestos, benzene, and other hazardous materials
  • Conduct thorough legal research and analysis to support case strategies
  • Revise legal documents, including pleadings, motions, and discovery requests
  • Advise on settlements and engage in alternative dispute resolution processes
  • Stay updated on relevant laws, regulations, and industry trends affecting environmental law and toxic tort litigation

Requirements: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements for this position are listed below:

  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school
  • Licensed in good standing to practice law in a US jurisdiction
  • 3-6 years of experience as counsel in a fast-paced environment (preferably major law firm experience or experience at an environmental regulatory agency)
  • Environmental law background required with CERCLA and/or state cleanup experience preferred
  • Strong state (PA/NJ/NY) environmental remediation experience is helpful
  • Litigation experience is preferred
  • Strong writing and legal analysis skills required
  • Strong academic credentials and previous training in respected law firm, corporate legal department, or administrative agency required
  • In-house experience helpful
  • Must be a self-starter, detail oriented, and able to work as a member of a busy team

Working Conditions:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

  • Hybrid work schedule; requires working in person in headquarters located in Wilmington, DE
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time due to prolonged periods of sitting or standing
  • Occasional overnight travel may be required

  • For this position, you must be currently authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship for a non-immigrant visa. This is a new role.
