Job Summary
The Data Center Technician supports the installation, configuration, and maintenance of fiber optic and structured cabling infrastructure within new construction and active data center environments. This role performs fiber termination, testing, rack and stack installations, and infrastructure build-outs while adhering to strict safety standards. The position requires hands-on technical ability, adaptability, and the ability to work extended hours, including overtime and weekends. Candidates must have at least two years of general construction or low voltage experience with exposure to cabling or fiber installations and must be physically capable of performing demanding tasks in dynamic environments. Job Responsibilities
Perform cable infrastructure installation, including fiber rough-in and cable pulling
Dress, label, terminate, patch, and test copper and fiber cabling
Install and configure single-mode and multi-mode fiber, including ST, LC, SC, and SC-APC connectors
Conduct Fluke and OTDR testing and troubleshoot fiber-related issues
Perform rack and stack of customer equipment and build server rack elevations
Install fiber trays, ladder racks, cabinets, and cable management systems
Complete infrastructure build-outs, including fiber tray systems, ladder racks, and power trays
Receive materials, stage equipment, and assemble hardware as required
Perform Outside Plant (OSP) fiber installations into data center facilities
Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
Maintain professional communication with team members and leadership
Follow all safety guidelines, including OSHA standards, proper PPE usage, and jobsite cleanup
Work collaboratively on-site in new construction environments and adapt to changing project needs
Participate in continuous learning to stay current with tools, equipment, and installation standards
Job Requirements
High school diploma or GED
Minimum of two years of general construction, low voltage, or cable installation experience
Experience working with structured cabling, fiber optics, or similar cable infrastructure preferred
Experience in commercial construction or technical installation environments preferred
OSHA 10 certification preferred
Experience using Fluke testers; experience with Fujikura splicers preferred
Ability to start shifts at 6:00 a.m. and work overtime and weekends as needed
Ability to work on ladders and scissor lifts and in confined spaces
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds
Ability to stand for extended shifts and work at heights
Strong attention to detail, adaptability, and willingness to learn
Education
Work Experience
At least two years of hands-on experience in construction, low voltage installation, or cable infrastructure environments
Exposure to fiber optic installation, termination, or testing preferred
