We are seeking one highly skilled Prototype Fabrication & CNC Machining Specialist to support advanced automotive research and development within a world-class engineering environment. This role blends fabrication assembly, engine and transmission build, additive manufacturing, welding, and CNC programming into one dynamic, hands-on opportunity.

What You'll Do



  • Perform vehicle assembly and disassembly within established build schedules
  • Assemble prototype engines, transmissions, and powertrain components including inspection, measurement, testing, troubleshooting, and documentation
  • Fabricate and modify metal parts from blueprints or 3D CAD data
  • Weld steel, stainless steel, and aluminum using TIG and MIG processes
  • Operate fabrication equipment including saws, shears, metal brakes, grinders, oxygen/acetylene torches, flame cutters, drill presses, and water jet cutters
  • Program and operate CNC and manual mills and lathes, including 3- and 5-axis machining centers
  • Write and optimize CNC programs using CAD/CAM software and G-code
  • Perform setup activities including tooling selection, offsets, speeds and feeds calculations, and fixture design
  • Conduct GD&T interpretation, tolerance verification, and quality inspections using micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, and height gauges
  • Operate additive manufacturing (3D printing/rapid prototyping) equipment and related software
  • Complete post-processing of printed parts including sanding, curing, cleaning, gluing, and finishing
  • Maintain laboratory and workshop equipment, including calibration and preventative maintenance
  • Follow all safety procedures and maintain clean, organized work areas
  • Communicate effectively with engineers, technicians, and leadership to ensure project alignment



What You Bring



  • Strong mechanical aptitude and knowledge of automotive systems
  • Experience in fabrication assembly, engine rebuilding, transmission assembly, or heavy line manufacturing
  • Proficiency with CAD software (CATIA preferred) and familiarity with CAM systems such as Mastercam or GibbsCAM
  • Experience writing CNC programs and operating manual and CNC mills and lathes
  • Ability to interpret blueprints, Bill of Materials (BOM), and GD&T specifications
  • Experience with TIG and MIG welding; ability to pass a welding test
  • Knowledge of additive manufacturing processes and 3D printing technologies preferred
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple technical projects
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs frequently and 60 lbs periodically
  • Willingness to work overtime as required
  • Team-oriented mindset with strong written and verbal communication skills
