State Department Federal Credit Union is seeking a Director of Mortgage Operations to oversee all aspects of Mortgage Lending within the organization, including Correspondent Lending and Quality Control operations. This leadership role involves strategic planning, process and technology optimization, team management, and ensuring compliance with industry regulations. The Director is tasked with enhancing operational efficiency, improving customer satisfaction, and driving overall success in the Mortgage Operations department. This position is crucial for ensuring that our mortgage operations are efficient, compliant, and aligned with the strategic goals of the Credit Union.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Analyze current practices, integrate new technologies, and utilize data analytics to enhance operational efficiency.
- Oversee all stages of the mortgage process, including loan origination, processing, underwriting, closing and Quality Control including Correspondent Lending operations.
- Assemble, lead, and facilitate teams in the development and implementation of key department projects and initiatives.
- Participate and/or lead in the recruitment and selection process to ensure the Credit Union has the necessary talent to accomplish business and department goals.
- Oversee the configuration and maintenance of the mortgage loan origination (LOS) system - Preferred experience with Encompass & Optimal Blue.
- Monitor and analyze performance metrics to assess the efficiency and effectiveness of mortgage operations.
- Provide department oversight, Member Experience for reporting the member satisfaction ratings and produce a dashboard encompassing all member complaints, feedback from member surveys and emails.
- Work both within the department and with other departments to ensure complex regulatory requirements are communicated and understood by department staff.
- Develop and enforce policies and procedures to manage risk and maintain compliance.
- Assist with responses on audits and supervise maintenance of the tracking required by the loan reviews. Assist in the preparation responses for examiners, auditors, or external/internal audit and make corrections as necessary.
- Experience working with GSE's in identification, contract, and execution of loan delivery.
- Manage Third Party Originations Channel including all due diligence and approval for purchase.
Required Skills and Competencies:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 5 to 7 years in mortgage operations with a proven track record of managing teams and optimizing processes.
- Secondary Market operations knowledge preferred
- Must be federally registered and maintain an active federal registration with the National Mortgage Licensing System (NMLS) and Registry
- Strong vendor relationship management and contract negotiation skills
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in accounting software and financial modeling tools.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Occasional travel as needed
