PURPOSE:


The Sr Environmental Manager leads environmental compliance strategy enterprise-wide to improve performance. This position develops and leads environmental programs that ensure regulatory compliance, minimize environmental risk, and support organizational sustainability goals. This position also provides strategic leadership in environmental management systems, permitting, and compliance across Operations.



CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Own corporate standards that set clear expectations for environmental compliance.
  • Oversee compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
  • Lead and/or provide consultation on permitting processes, reporting, and regulatory interactions.
  • Provide technical expertise on air, water, waste, and remediation programs.
  • Lead development and reporting of ESG metrics and sustainability performance indicators to support corporate transparency, stakeholder engagement, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Facilitate collaboration among site environmental personnel and provide coaching for personnel upon request.
  • Monitor environmental performance metrics and drive continuous improvement.
  • Conduct audits, inspections, and risk assessments to ensure compliance and identify improvements.
  • Participate/lead in significant environmental incident reviews as requested.
  • Manage environmental technical support for due diligence activities.
  • Represent the organization in industry and community forums on environmental matters.


QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • 15+ years of progressive HSE leadership in refining, chemical, oil and gas, or related industrial or process environments.
  • Proven leadership of multi-site environmental programs.


SKILLS:



  • Strong knowledge of federal air quality regulations (PSD, Title V, NSPS, NESHAPs, etc.), general wastewater and storm water compliance, general hazardous and non-hazardous waste compliance and quality assurance procedures.
  • Base knowledge of refinery Safety, Refinery Process Safety and Refinery Environmental requirements.
  • Permit strategy and regulatory expertise - able to work in a collaborative manner with facility management teams to determine degree of Environmental compliance with regulations, permits, site and corporate plans/programs/policies, and procedures.
  • Environmental-management systems governance - provide guidance to sites and oversee methods for meeting reporting requirements.
  • Continuous improvement - able to recognize root causes, identify correction actions and prepare clear, concise reports.
  • Data analysis and performance reporting - conduct trend analysis of site performance data and lead Green House Gas calculations and reporting.
  • Stakeholder and agency engagement - has strong interpersonal skills (both verbal and written) to draft compliance program documents and procedures and respond to Agency Actions, including enforcement orders.
  • Leadership and team development - able to facilitate cross-site teams and drive alignment and consistency in approach across all sites for Environmental objectives.
  • Able to travel up 25-50% of time.
