Position Summary: The Sr. Avionics Engineer is responsible for the engineering data, instructions, documents, and technical support that, within budgetary and regulatory constraints, ensure the safety, airworthiness, and reliability of Atlas Air aircraft within the following ATA chapter subjects: 22, 23, 24, 31, 33, 34, 45, 46, 47, 77.

Major Job Accountabilities:



  • Provide guidance to Aircraft Avionics Engineering Manager and stakeholders on issues in safety, airworthiness, and reliability of Atlas Air aircraft.
  • Create instructions (Engineering Orders) and various other technical documents to economically support operations and return aircraft to service in a safe, airworthy, and timely manner.
  • Develop and/or obtain approved data, acceptable data, and Alternate Methods of Compliance (AMOCs) for repairs, alterations, and modifications.
  • Work with maintenance team(s), creating Action Plans to isolate, troubleshoot, and repair aircraft anomalies in the respective ATAs during AOG events. Includes support of chronic and repeat items.
  • Update technical source documents as applicable to insure accuracy (AMMs, WDMs, FIMs, etc.)
  • Support integration and phase-in of new and previously operated aircraft to meet Atlas requirements.
  • Liaise with manufacturers; maintenance representatives, repair & overhaul (MRO) facilities; internal/external engineering departments; regulatory personnel; and other outside agencies.
  • Participate in industry working groups, industry steering committees, industry meetings, and conferences.
  • Review and extract information from the work of consultants, contractors, and MRO avionics engineers relating to safety, airworthiness, and reliability of Atlas Air aircraft.


Key Objectives (Reliability)



  • Perform fleet reliability analysis for unique systems and components in respective ATA codes above.
  • Evaluate Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs), Notices of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRMs), Airworthiness Directives (ADs), Service Bulletins (SBs), Service Letters (SLs), and other notifications of in-service issues.
  • Seek out and analyze trending data to develop product improvement modifications as directed by Reliability engineers and key performance indicators such as Delays, ATBs, BTBs, PIREPs, MIREPs, and MTBURs.


Key Objectives (Skills):



  • Work with OEMs on emerging issues to help ensure safety, airworthiness, but also minimize the economic impact to the airline. Requires good business acumen and sense of financial responsibility.
  • Organize, develop and provide all necessary avionics engineering documentation required to complete aircraft systems modifications and repairs within the allocated time schedule and budget allowance.


  • Establish component repair and build specifications to enhance dispatch reliability in accordance with budgetary and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide technical support to Technical Operations, Ground Operations, Flight Operations, and other Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings personnel.
  • Coordinate with other Engineering staff to provide 24/7 technical support when needed.
  • Review systems portion of the Aircraft Maintenance and Inspection Program, and initiate maintenance program changes and changes to maintenance documents.


Qualifications:



  • S. Aerospace, Electrical, Mechanical, or Software Engineering or other B.S. Technical degree. Or 12-15 years combined airline, MRO, OEM, or other notable aircraft avionics experience with 7-9 years in design or applied engineering setting.
  • FAA A&P and/or FCC License preferred
  • Experience with various authoring and software tools specific to engineering reporting such as Inform (iDMR), Autodesk, Tableau, TRAX, MBF and Adobe a plus.
  • Experience with Microsoft word, Excel, Project and Vizio
  • Technical skills and knowledge of aircraft (transport category) avionic systems and components required.
  • Ability and flexibility to travel domestically and internationally on short notice in support of company objectives.

Competitive compensation will be offered based on a variety of factors, including a candidate's experience, skills, education, geographic location, internal equity and other factors. In addition, a range of benefits to include medical, dental and vision insurance, employee assistance program, as well as generous paid time off, and 401K contributions are offered as a part of the total compensation package.
