Reuters is seeking a Media Editorto drive agenda-setting journalism at the intersection of media, tech and politics. This is a senior editorial role for a journalist with deep sourcing skills, a track record of exclusives, and management experience to guide reporters in delivering distinctive coverage that stands out globally. The ideal candidate would be equally adept at tackling the threat on the fourth estate and merger mania in media to the global push to ban social media from minors and AI's impact on media and entertainment.

This position will be based in either New York or Los Angeles and will play a key role in the global tech and media team.

The journalist will have a deep understanding of economics of the entertainment and digital media businesses and a strong rolodex of sources for scoops and in-depth enterprise stories.

About the Role

As Media Editor, you will:

  • Manage breakingnews on the media business beat, including surfacing agenda-setting information from deep sources close to the action.
  • Be a part of a small team, breakingnews on the largest deals and developments in the entertainment, streaming video business and social media industries.
  • Collaborate closely with colleagues in adjacent business beats, the Breaking News Team, and visual journalists to tell the stories in the style our clients need.
  • Drive and edit exclusives and enterprise stories
  • Inspire and develop reporters to do best-in-class reporting on the beat.

About You

The ideal candidate for our Media Editor will have:

  • Proven ability to develop senior sourcesand consistently deliver market-moving or agenda-setting exclusives.
  • At least 10 years' experience coveringmedia, technology and platforms with a strongtrack record of authority and insight.
  • Demonstrated management experience, includingrunning small teams andmentoring reporters in both their writing and source-building.
  • Excellent news judgmentthat filters the news from the noiseand the ability to thrive under deadline pressure.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce clean, publish-ready and compelling copy.
  • A collaborative leadership style and commitment to Reuters' standards of accuracy, speed and independence.

Thomson Reuters complies with local laws that require upfront disclosure of the expected pay range for a position. The base compensation range varies across locations. Eligible office location(s) for this role include one or more of the following: New York City, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and/or Irvine, CA; McLean, VA; Washington, DC. The base compensation range for the role in any of those locations is $109,700 USD - $203,700 USD. Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual's knowledge, skills and experience with consideration given to internal equity. Base pay is one part of a comprehensive Total Reward program which also includes flexible and supportive benefits and other wellbeing programs. This role may also be eligible for an Annual Bonus based on a combination of enterprise and individual performance.
