Job Description:

We are seeking an Application DBA / Developer (PostgreSQL) to join Softrams' Health IT practice in support of database engineering and administration efforts for a mission-critical federal health program. This role contributes to the reliability, performance, and scalability of production database environments powering modern, responsive web applications for government clients.

Basic Requirements:



  • 10 years of total databse engineering expereince and a Bachelor's degree (BS) in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
  • Active AWS Certification
  • 7+ years of hands-on experience with PostgreSQL database administration, performance tuning, and production support in high-volume, customer-facing environments
  • Experience with AWS RDS Aurora PostgreSQL
  • 5= years of strong PL/pgSQL or PL/SQL experience
  • Experience with complex, high-volume data warehouse projects
  • Data modeling experience using ErWin
  • 3+ yeasrs of experience working in Agile/Scrum large-scale programs
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to quickly triage and escalate issues
  • Strong attention to detail and a focus on task completion


Additional Qualifications:



  • Experience working with multi-disciplinary development teams
  • SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework) experience
  • Familiarity with DB2 and Oracle database engines
  • Working experience with z/OS DB2 database


Responsibilities:



  • Maintain and administer production, test, and development PostgreSQL databases
  • Support development teams from a database design and development perspective
  • Ensure optimal performance on PostgreSQL environments through proactive tuning and monitoring
  • Oversee installation, maintenance, configuration, and integrity of PostgreSQL architecture
  • Perform SQL and PL/pgSQL performance tuning; provide best practice recommendations to application developers
  • Conduct regular code reviews with application developers
  • Design, implement, and maintain new databases including backup, recovery, and configuration management
  • Ensure long-term database systems planning aligns with organizational operations and administration needs
  • Perform data refresh activities and support across one or more cross-functional teams
