Job Summary: |
This is a full-time basic science Research Services Professional - Entry Level position. In addition to lab managerial tasks, the work requires knowledge of research techniques, handling of live animals, rodent survival surgery, and performance of immunoassays and vascular myography, review of quality control, and assay development/troubleshooting. Data entry and analysis using Windows-based systems will be required. The Lorca lab is housed within the Division of Reproductive Sciences of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Our research is aimed to understand the physiological cardiovascular adaptations during pregnancy, and how impaired vascular function impacts fetal growth. Our lab has a special interest in the use of innovative approaches to develop murine models of fetal growth restriction. Key Responsibilities: Research 90%
Preparation of tissue culture media and other routine laboratory reagents may be necessary. The RSP will work with human tissues and with live animals (i.e., mice). Rodent colony maintenance and occasional late night and weekend effort will be necessary. RNA, DNA, and protein extraction; PCR; protein western capillary electrophoresis and immunohistochemistry; animal husbandry, survival and non-survival animal surgery, and in vivo models; vascular myography and electrophysiology techniques. Prepare lab for daily operations, including stocking materials, equipment, safety, cleanliness, and related areas Dispose of laboratory materials and samples using well established guidelines and instructions Provide support researching issues and developing recommendations to resolve process, unit and related issues. Rodent colony maintenance and occasional late night and weekend effort will be necessary.
Administration 10%:
Organizing and protecting a human tissue database will also be required. Review, complete and process logs, documents, databases, and related materials and information Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire. Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field Prior experience or background within an experimental or wet laboratory Experience with animal colony maintenance Exceptional individuals with extensive, rigorous, recent laboratory coursework may be considered. A record of successful publication is appreciated. Evidence of excellence in prior educational (e.g., phi beta kappa) or research (e.g., successful publication) activities is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of basic laboratory techniques including safety procedures and techniques Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution Outstanding customer service skills Knowledge of basic human anatomy, physiology medical terminology Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information

Anticipated Pay Range: |
The hiring range for this position has been established as Entry Level: $46,274 - $58,861 The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level. Your total compensation goes beyond the number on your paycheck.
