Job Summary

The Ambulatory Analytics Manager oversees the analytic support for the UCSF Faculty Practice Office and Ambulatory Services operations. The individual will provide input on analytic team personnel matters and prioritize and assign activities in alignment with enterprise-wide strategic priorities.

Involves analysis of complex business problems using data to provide insight to decision makers. Identifies and interprets trends and patterns in datasets to locate influences. Develops forecasts, recommendations, and strategic/tactical plans based on business data and market knowledge. Works with business and/or clinical units to understand and prioritize data and information requirements. Creates specifications for reports and analyses based on business needs and the required /available data elements. Optimizes the performance of enterprise business intelligence tools by defining data to filter and index that add value to the user. Develops business cases to support enterprise-wide business intelligence solutions.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $168,200 - $252,300 (Annual Rate).

Department Description

The EIA - Health Quality, Safety, & Ambulatory Analytics team functions as a liaison between the customer or partners in the organization (including clinical, financial, administration, education, and research domains) and technical resources to provide optimal analytic solutions to solve problems, answer questions and meet the needs of our customers. The team is involved in strategic and operational activities to drive change in behavior and ultimately outcomes using data and information.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • Typically 2-5 years of experience managing an information technology organization.
  • Minimum 7 years' experience in the related area
  • Epic report-writer certification or equivalent
  • Strong knowledge of business intelligence principles, concepts, and methodologies.
  • Proficient knowledge of MS Office suite and BI/database applications and reporting tools including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Tableau, Microsoft SQL server, Epic Reporting Workbench, Crystal Reports.
  • Ability to analyze information, think conceptually, and formulate effective solutions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to convey technical information in a clear, concise manner.
  • Proven ability to deliver presentations to large and/or diverse audiences.
  • Proven conflict resolution skills.
  • Flexibility and ability to orient and work in all UCSF Medical Center locations and/or remotely.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Demonstrated ability to supervise professional staff, assign work and manage competing priorities.
  • Knowledge of human resources practices and policies. Ability to monitor, address and document personnel and performance issues.
  • Advanced interpersonal skills to collaborate with clinical and technical professionals and business leaders.
  • Ability to work effectively with senior management on operational and performance issues. Ability to build relationships and mentor staff.
  • Thorough knowledge of Epic Ambulatory clinical and administrative workflows

License/Certification


  • Epic report-writer certification or equivalent
