Benefits and Compliance Specialist

Salary: $88,000 annually

The HR Benefits and Compliance Specialist oversee employee benefits, leave programs, workers' compensation, and required federal and state reporting. The role also leads the Benefits Education & Awareness Program, serving as the main resource for employee education on benefit plans, wellness initiatives, and healthy workplace practices.

It ensures accurate benefits enrollment, vendor coordination, regulatory compliance, and employee engagement through structured education and outreach, working closely with leadership, payroll, operations, and external vendors to support compliance and clear benefits understanding

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

* Administer employee benefits programs, including health, life, retirement, and wellness offerings.

* Manage annual open enrollment, employee communications, system updates, and vendor coordination.

* Serve as the primary liaison with benefits vendors and brokers to ensure compliance and resolve issues.

* Lead the Company's Benefits Education & Awareness Program and deliver quarterly education sessions.

* Create and distribute benefits and wellness communication materials.

* Oversee leave programs (FMLA, ADA, state leave) and ensure accurate tracking and regulatory compliance.

* Administer Workers' Compensation claims, incident reporting, and OSHA recordkeeping.

* Prepare required federal and state compliance reports (EEO-1, VETS-4212, etc.).

* Monitor regulatory changes and recommend policy updates.

* Maintain benefits, leave, and compliance policies and procedures.

* Respond to employee inquiries regarding benefits, leave, and Workers' Compensation.

* Support internal/external audits and regulatory reviews.

* Partner with Payroll and HRIS to ensure accurate data and reporting.

* Assist with contract start-ups, transitions, and workforce integrations related to benefits and compliance.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

* Bachelor's degree in HR, Business Administration, or a related field.

* Five years of experience in HR benefits administration and compliance.

* Knowledge of federal and state employment laws (FMLA, ADA, Workers' Compensation, OSHA, benefits regulations).

* Experience preparing EEO-1, VETS-4212, and OSHA 300 reports.

* Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.

* Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.

* Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office and HRIS/benefits systems.

PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

* Master's degree in HR, Business Administration, or a related field.

* PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP certification.

* Experience in government contracting or highly regulated environments.

* Experience delivering benefits and wellness education programs.

* Knowledge of multi-state regulatory requirements, including state paid family leave

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The role is based in either the Alexandria, VA, or Daniel Island, SC office and operates within the Human Resources Department. The HR Benefits and Compliance Specialist must remain accessible to organizational needs, including occasional after-hours support. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, HRIS systems, and the English language is required.

TRAVEL

Frequent travel is required to support contract locations and deliver benefits education and compliance services. Travel includes on-site and virtual briefings and other contract support activities, with up to 50% travel based on operational needs.
