A Day In The Life
The Associate, Maintenance Engineer II under the direction of the Lead Engineer supports the Vehicle Processing Center (VPC) and affiliated facilities by maintaining HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and building systems while assisting with preventative maintenance programs. This role ensures compliance with safety and NFPA standards, uses proper PPE, and interprets technical manuals and drawings. Strong communication and problem-solving skills are essential to identify issues, implement corrective actions, and maintain safe, efficient operations.

As a Engineer, Maintenance II you will:

  • Lead advanced maintenance and repair of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems, ensuring maximum uptime and efficiency across facilities
  • Design, implement, and oversee comprehensive preventative maintenance programs to extend equipment life, minimize unplanned downtime, and optimize resource utilization
  • Serve as subject matter expert (SME) for HVAC systems, including troubleshooting complex issues, reviewing load calculations, and ensuring compliance with energy and environmental standards
  • Provide technical leadership on electrical systems, including switchgear, distribution panels, backup power systems, and compliance with NFPA/NEC codes
  • Develop and track maintenance KPIs (e.g., equipment reliability, MTBF, energy efficiency) and present findings to management to support data-driven decisions
  • Conduct root-cause analysis of recurring equipment failures, recommend corrective actions, and implement long-term solutions
  • Drive process improvement initiatives to streamline maintenance workflows, reduce costs, improve system reliability, and align practices with industry best standards
  • Ensure strict compliance with safety policies, NFPA codes, OSHA requirements, and all environmental regulations during maintenance and project execution
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers and maintenance staff, building cross-functional expertise and operational depth


What We Need From You

  • Associate's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university Req
  • 4-6 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience Required
  • Ability to apply common sense.
  • DL NUMBER - Driver License, Valid and in State Upon Hire Required
  • State Licensed Electrician A State of Texas Apprentice Maintenance Electrician License or a City of Houston Third Grade Stationary Engineer license is preferred. Preferred

Physical Requirements
The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an associate to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly and repeatedly required to talk; hear; stand; walk; stoop; kneel/squat, climb, use hands and fingers, to handle, grip/squeeze and/or feel; push/pull and reach with hands and arms. The associate will be frequently required to balance; crouch, or crawl; reach over-head and taste or smell. The associate must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, night vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Travel Requirements

  • 10% Minimal travel is required for this position (up to 10% of the time and on a domestic basis).
