The UC Berkeley Parking and Transportation Department provides a full range of parking and transportation services, serving a diverse community of more than 42,000 students and 11,000 faculty and staff in the City of Berkeley, at the heart of the San Francisco Bay Area.

Position Summary

The Parking and Transportation Special Events Manager oversees the Special Events unit which includes supporting the hundreds of events that occur on campus every year as well as overseeing the Loop ADA transportation program and the Parking Attendant program for Parking and Transportation. This position works closely with campus partners and clients to support the parking needs for any large or small event on campus.

Responsibilities

  • Provides comprehensive direction and oversight for all aspects to support campus events, the ADA Loop transportation program, and the stack parking attendant program including personnel and financial administration.
  • Confers with broad based constituencies regarding comprehensive event policies, master schedules, and strategic planning.
  • Through subordinates, supports a diverse variety of events, ranging from small events with complex guest lists to large, campuswide events requiring coordination of multiple internal and external resources.
  • Selects, trains, leads, directs, mentors, evaluates and, as required, takes corrective action with subordinate professional staff.
  • Provides guidance to subordinate professional staff on the more complex and sensitive events issues.
  • Ensures that client and institutional needs are met by scheduling and providing access to parking and or other transportation means in order to support the event.
  • May serve as high level event consultant to senior management.
  • Through subordinates, manages the campus Loop ADA program.

    An on campus, on demand transportation service for those who need mobility assistance to attend classes.

  • Through subordinates, manages the campus stacked parking program which provides stack parking to increase the parking supply.
  • Manages Special Events budget and works closely with clients to make sure billing for both internal and external clients happens in a timely manner.
  • Reconciles Special Events financials on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.

Required Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of management principles, policies, concepts and best practices and skill to select, train, mentor, evaluate and, as required, take disciplinary action with subordinate staff.
  • Strong knowledge of all aspects of event management and production and public relations.
  • Strong knowledge of and/or can quickly learn the campus, its vision, mission, goals, programs, policies and infrastructure.
  • Strong knowledge of program management, including comprehensive staff and budget administration.
  • Strong interpersonal communications skills to build and foster a collaborative and cooperative work environment and build to maintain good working relationships with all organizational levels and outside constituencies.
  • Strong political acumen and skill in judgment, decision-making and problem recognition, avoidance and resolution.
  • Strong leadership/management skills, including skills to lead, direct, mentor, evaluate and motivate staff.
  • Strong knowledge of Parking and Transportation space inventory, parking regulations, and operational cycles.
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.

The budgeted annual salary range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $101,600.00 - $145,700.00.

  • This is a full-time (40 hours/week), career position that is eligible for UC Benefits.
  • This is an exempt monthly-paid position.
