Overview

Summary:

The purpose of the cooperative experience is to provide a semester long hands-on experience. Werfen hires students with leadership potential and proven academic success. Ideal candidates will combine technical and business knowledge with analytical strength and creative problem-solving abilities.

The selected candidate will tackle hands-on Systems Engineering challenges as a member of the R&D Acute Care New Product Development team, guiding Werfen products through various phases of their product development lifecycles. The candidate will have opportunities to build prototypes, define and execute test plans, run whole blood samples on benchtops and/or full systems, analyze performance data, develop test methods, report on results, advise on architecture, and other related activities associated with early product development work.

Responsibilities

Key Accountabilities:

  • Performs entry-level lab work, data analysis, and experimental planning of a routine nature as directed by full-time engineer.
  • Provides support for continuous improvement team efforts focused on process improvement and optimization.
  • Participate in the day-to-day activities of the team including regular interfacing with other R&D functions such as Hardware, Analytical, Software, and Project Management.
  • Ability to lead and influence at various levels and functions of the organization through strong interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills.
  • Competency in conducting experimental research, and refining large quantities of technical data into concise summaries.

Essential Functions:

  • Develops and executes verification test protocols for new products.
  • Leads subsystem and/or component level exploratory testing.
  • Write and execute test scripts for hardware control.
  • Manage system and subsystem requirements in JAMA.
  • Perform risk analyses with a cross-functional team.
  • Participate in Human Factors/Usability development and documentation.
  • Performs experiments, analyzes and interprets numerical data from experiments.
  • Summarizes findings by computer readouts, statistical summaries, graphs and other methods using tools such as Minitab.
  • Requires confidence in using Microsoft Office tools.
  • Requires Enthusiasm, motivation, initiative and ability to work within an interactive and energetic workplace.

Additional Attributes:

  • Understanding of complex systems with both hardware and software.
  • Strong organizational skills for creating test plans per objectives, collecting data, and reporting out learnings/conclusions.
  • Skill with analyzing numeric data sets and creating graphical summaries.
  • Ability to execute test plans independently.
  • Detailed eye for documentation of test methods and results.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Basic programming experience (Any language, C/C++ or Python preferred).
Qualifications

Minimum Knowledge & Experience Required for the Position:

  • Currently pursuing B.S. in Engineering or a related field with a minimum of 2 college semesters complete.
  • Ability to multitask.

The hourly range for this role is $22/hr to $30/hr. Individual compensation will ultimately depend on factors including relevant experience and grade level completed.
