The Chemist position for the PCG Group Raw Material team is responsible for the timely and efficient testing of raw material technologies in support of our alternate strategy through planning, executing, and analysis of experiments with clear and accurate results demonstrating basic knowledge of chemicals and raw materials. The chemist will lead the study of unique or novel technologies for various raw material categories. The chemist will also have the opportunity to participate in supplier interactions and contribute to Raw Material Strategy within their category. The chemist will have the opportunity to mentor lower level chemists on the RM team.

Job duties include contact with other employees and access confidential and proprietary information and/or other items of value, and such access may be supervised or unsupervised. This role will be located at Sherwin-Williams Morikis Global Technology Center located at 6745 Miller Road, Brecksville, OH 44141.

General Duties, Responsibilities, and Accountabilities:

  • Develop more in depth technical and business knowledge regarding raw materials.
  • Proactively manage and drive raw material cost savings, PCG category strategy and managed chemicals to reduce raw material risk.
  • Partner with PCG Business and control lab to plan and execute Raw Material projects.
  • Plan, schedule, execute work, analyze results, and make recommendations based on those results.
  • Host meetings. Summarize, present, and report project findings/conclusions to stakeholders and provide recommendations for actions path forward.
  • Identify potential PCG RM Strategy projects for different RM Categories (ie UV Absorbers)
  • Mentor and guide other chemists on the RM Team
  • Manage complex raw material replacement projects across multiple PCG BUs, SB, WB, 1K, 2K
  • Identify areas to aid in raw material expertise and become a subject matter expert in one or more SHWs Raw Material categories
  • Adhering to safety, quality (e.g., ISO), and housekeeping policies and guidelines.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the country for which you are applying for employment without now or in the future requiring sponsorship for employment visa status
  • Must have a Bachelor's Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, Math ("STEM") field
  • 5 years of formulating experience and/or performing laboratory work
  • Project support through effective data analysis.
  • Ability to utilize standard software applications including word processing, spreadsheet, presentations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree (MS or Ph.D.) in a Science, Technology, Engineering, Math ("STEM") field
  • Understanding of PCG BU technology (Automotive, Protective and Marine, Industrial Wood and General Industrial)
  • Understanding of statistics and use of Minitab
  • Understanding of Navigator, Tableau and Business Objects
  • Design For Six Sigma Green Belt and/or Black Belt Certification

Travel Requirements: 10%

This position is not eligible for sponsorship for work authorization now or in the future, including conversion to H-1B visa.
