*Data Engineer*
*Length:* 6 months *Onsite: *NY, NY *Top Skills* * *At least 3* years of professional experience building and optimizing ETL data pipelines, structured file transfers (e.g., FTP/SFTP or cloud warehouse sharing), and data validation routines. * Expertise in secure data transfer models (e.g., SFTP, cloud-based direct sharing) and data warehouse solutions (e.g., Snowflake and equivalents). * Strong technical background in data engineering tools (e.g.,* R, *SQL, Python, command-line scripting) with demonstrated experience optimizing large-scale production environments. *Job Description* The Data Engineer will provide guidance and support for automating, simplifying, and modernizing existing proprietary data series and data tools, as well as advising and supporting the creation of new data products and infrastructure. The position will work closely with the Indicators, Labor Markets, and IT teams *to design and develop pipelines for data ingestion,* *data transformations, and production deliverables.* The role will leverage Python, R, SQL, and cloud-based storage and computing tools to improve data reliability, processing efficiency, and transparency across data workflows. *The ideal candidate* has experience managing large, third-party-sourced datasets and in building reproducible ETL pipelines to support production-ready research products. *Job responsibilities* * Plan and program streamlined data pipelines for HWOL job posting data, including for data ingestion (via Snowflake, SFTP, or similar), aggregation logic, and internal data management. * Advice on the design of various database architectures (e.g. local and cloud-based warehouse), evaluating available vendor solutions and supporting implementation of cost-effective data processes. * Develop automated processes for auditable diagnostics and exception-handling to identify data anomalies and production failures to ensure data completeness and consistency. * Propose new and revised code components to improve production efficiency and reliability, such as parallel processing, scheduled loads, and quality monitoring of deliverables. * Document data processes, schemas, and operational dependencies to improve institutional knowledge, onboarding, and long-term maintainability of data product systems. * Help with automating and modernizing existing processes. * Use machine learning to help us refine and build new data series, data tools, and platforms. * Provide suggestions and guidance on how to better plan, structure, and execute data projects. *Required Skills &* *Qualifications* * *At least 3 years* of professional experience building and optimizing ETL data pipelines, structured file transfers (e.g., FTP/SFTP or cloud warehouse sharing), and data validation routines. * Expertise in secure data transfer models (e.g., SFTP, cloud-based direct sharing) and data warehouse solutions (e.g., Snowflake and equivalents). * Strong technical experience in data engineering tools (e.g., R, SQL, Python, command-line scripting) with demonstrated experience optimizing large-scale production environments. * Ability to help code and execute machine learning processes (e.g., LLM, NLP) * Familiarity with AI-supported data visualization solutions is preferred. * Familiarity with economic or financial market datasets is preferred. * Strong documentation, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with economists and non-technical stakeholders. ** Bachelor's required*; Advanced degree preferred in data science, computer science/engineering, information systems, or a similar field. *Job Type & Location*This is a Contract position based out of New York, NY. *Pay and Benefits*The pay range for this position is $65.00 - $80.00/hr.
