JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Penn State College of Medicine is seeking two highly motivated graduate student interns to join a vibrant group of AI scientists for a summer research experience focused on artificial intelligence in clinical informatics. This internship is ideal for someone with strong analytical and technical skills who is excited to work at the intersection of machine learning, healthcare data, and translational clinical research.

The interns will contribute to ongoing projects at the intersection of artificial intelligence, healthcare data, and clinical research, under the mentorship of Dr. Abedi and Dr. Vafaei Sadr (AI faculties) and Dr. Zand (Neurologist). This is an excellent opportunity for any graduate student interested in applying machine learning and data science methods to clinically meaningful problems.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Assisting with clinical data analysis and preprocessing
  • Developing and evaluating AI and machine learning models
  • Supporting research in predictive modeling and translational clinical informatics
  • Contributing to presentations, abstracts, or manuscripts
  • Participating in team meetings and interdisciplinary collaboration

Preferred qualifications:

  • Current enrollment in a master's, PhD, or MD/PhD program in computer science, data science, biomedical informatics, engineering, biostatistics, or a related field
  • Experience with Python and machine learning methods
  • Interest in AI applications in healthcare and clinical research
  • Strong analytical and communication skills

This position is well suited for a student with a strong interdisciplinary background and an interest in advancing AI in medicine through collaborative research.
