The Opportunity:

Facilities and Business Operations is seeking to hire a Maintenance Technician II. This role is responsible for performing intermediate-level maintenance and repair of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, including pumps, motors, and related infrastructure. Also responsible for troubleshooting issues, providing service, and responding to requests from faculty, students, and staff. This position supports the safe and efficient operation of building systems through skilled troubleshooting and routine service. The employee will be required to assume on-call responsibilities as assigned.

Responsibilities:


  • Responsible for performing scheduled preventive maintenance (PM) tasks and repairs (PMR) on building systems and equipment. Duties include inspecting, adjusting, and servicing components to detect and resolve potential issues before they become major problems. Intermediate repairs may include ceiling grid adjustments, countertop replacements, wall patching, and flooring installations such as ceramic tile, carpet, luxury vinyl tile (LVT), and vinyl composition tile (VCT).

  • Responds to service requests and performs corrective maintenance to restore failed or malfunctioning systems and equipment to proper working conditions. Responsible for troubleshooting and repairing issues such as leaking pipes, clogged drains, malfunctioning toilets, faulty light fixtures, non-operational outlets or switches, inoperative ventilation fans. Ensures timely and effective repairs to minimize disruptions, maintain occupant comfort, and support the safe operation of facilities.

  • Performs semi-complex plumbing maintenance and repairs on various fixtures such as drinking fountains, faucets, toilets, sinks, drains, urinals, and garbage disposals. Responsible for completing general carpentry tasks including repair and replacement of floors, doors, windows, and walls to preserve the integrity and appearance of facilities. Provides painting services for interior and exterior surfaces of buildings and equipment, ensuring protective finishes and a consistent aesthetic.

  • Maintains and replaces electrical components such as light fixtures, outlets, switches, motors, pumps, and compressors. Performs repairs and replacements on heating system parts, valves, and soft water systems. Responsible for maintaining exhaust and supply air ventilation systems, including filter replacements, to support building air quality and mechanical performance.

  • Completes assigned work orders accurately and in a timely manner. Records labor hours, materials used, action codes, and trade-specific notes. Documents work performed and communicates any issues requiring additional attention. Ensure all work order statuses are updated appropriately and that reporting is consistent with departmental procedures.

  • Responsible for identifying and reporting maintenance or safety deficiencies related to health, sanitation, or security. Ensure all maintenance activities adhere to university policies and comply with local, state, and federal regulations. Participate in mandatory safety training and follow established safety and operational guidelines.

  • Assists other Facilities teams, contractors, and campus departments during special projects, campus events, or emergency situations. Provides support during staffing shortages to maintain continuity of operations and ensure consistent service delivery across campus facilities.


Minimum Qualifications:

Completion of an approved apprenticeship program for multiple trades and 3 years of relevant experience; or a high school diploma and 3 years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219(6).

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in facilities maintenance or a related field.

  • Experience with interior and exterior painting, including knowledge of surface preparation, paint application techniques, and color matching.

  • Proficient in performing preventive maintenance and repair tasks across multiple building systems, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and carpentry.

  • Basic understanding of electrical systems, capable of performing minor repairs and installations (e.g., bulb replacement, fixture re-installation).

  • Ability to identify maintenance issues, analyzing problems, and implementing effective solutions.

  • Familiarity with routine maintenance procedures and project-based assignments in a large-scale facility or campus environment.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a customer-focused approach.

  • Proficiency with using standard office software applications to include Microsoft Office, work order systems (e.g., Integrated Work Management System), electronic equipment (iPad for AiM PM checkpoints), and utilizing telecommunication devices.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, adapting to changing priorities and emergency situations effectively.

  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail, ensuring accurate record-keeping, inventory management, and compliance with policies and procedures.

  • Maintain a commitment to safety protocols and procedures, with a track record of promoting a safe work environment.

  • Relevant certifications such as HVAC Technician, Electrician Certification, or Painting Certification are desirable.


Health Assessment Required:

The UCF policy requires completion and passing of a physical exam for this position.

Special Instructions to the Applicants:

The anticipated hourly rate range for this position is $17.64 - $20. The final rate will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, and internal equity considerations.

Position requires a valid driver's license. The position may involve driving to various locations on and off campus to conduct University business.
