ELECTRICAL ENGINEER INTERN

Ever-Green Energy is looking for a team member to play a key role in the successful execution of electrical and mechanical projects. Reporting to the Senior Electrical Engineer, this individual will provide technical engineering excellence, as well as successful delivery of work to internal and external clients. The intern will be part of the System Development Group which primarily supports engineering for the various district energy systems that Ever-Green Energy operates or supports. The Intern is responsible for a high level of customer satisfaction by ensuring expectations are clearly understood and acted upon. The successful candidate will also contribute to a dynamic team environment by being proactive, communicating clearly to all stakeholders, and modeling a highly collaborative working environment.

Minimum requirements to be successful in this role:

  • Completed 2+ years of a Bachelors' degree program in Electrical Engineering or 1+ years of an AAS degree program in Electrical Engineering Technology.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to enable effective interaction with Designers, Engineers and Project Managers.
  • Pragmatic and applied approach, while at the same time bringing a creative examination of customer needs and solutions.
  • Self-directed, but thrive in an environment where consultation leads to superior outcomes.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Accustomed to checking their own work.
  • Adaptable and agile, responsive to quick changes in direction.
  • Ability to establish rapport and credibility with stakeholders.

Preferred requirements:

  • Project experience and/or a working knowledge of electrical power systems. AutoCAD, Revit, SKM Power Tools, or similar drawing/electrical modeling experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Assists with the design of one or more of the following: power distribution systems, sizing motor feeders.
  1. Assists with performing voltage drop, short-circuit calculations, over-current protective device selective coordination, and arc fault hazard analysis. Learning and using SKM Power Tools specialized electrical modeling software.
  1. Able to visit various district energy plants to gather electrical equipment information.
  1. Supports the design of district energy plant power systems. Includes the design of special systems, such as ground fault, emergency generators, UPS, etc.
  1. Prepares engineering documents to meet contracted scope of work and to ensure application of Electrical Engineering principles. Learning and using Autodesk Revit 3D construction modeling software.
  1. Learning a basic understanding of Electrical, Mechanical, Civil and Structural Engineering construction practices.
  1. Build up knowledge of Codes (e.g. Electrical Code NEC, NFPA standards, Building Code, Fire Code, etc.).
  1. Coordinates work with other System Development Group team members.

The employee is frequently required to climb ramps/stairs; peripheral vision by observing an area that can be seen up and down or to right or left while eyes are fixed on a given point; and standing/walking.

The employee occasionally is required to climb ladders/ropes/scaffolding; crawling; crouching, far visual acuity of vision at 20 feet or more; kneeling; lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs.; reaching at/below shoulder level by extending hand and arms from 0 up to 150 degrees in a vertical arc; reaching overhead by extending hands and arms in a 150 to 180 degrees vertical arc; stooping; and confined space with limited entry or exit.

Must be capable of maneuvering throughout industrial facilities such as energy plants and building HVAC mechanical rooms, etc.

Work Environment:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The employee works the majority of their time in an office environment; however, may be required to perform some duties in heating or chilled water plants. While performing these duties, the employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, risk of electrical shock, dust, fumes, high pressure steam and hot water, and high temperatures, and hazards associated with moving machines. The noise level in the work environment can be moderate to loud. Personal Protective Equipment will be provided to the employee as needed.

We are committed to providing salary ranges for all open positions. Please note that the specific compensation for this role will be determined based on your experience, qualifications, location, and internal equity considerations.

The hourly rate for this position is $25.00/hr. The position will be a 3-month full-time internship over the summer only. This reflects the base rate for this position.

All employees working at least 80 hours in a year for an employer in Minnesota, including part-time and temporary employees, are eligible for ESST.
