As a senior communications specialist/writer, you will collaborate with a diverse team of engineers, scientists, planners, architects, technologists, economists, construction and other consulting and communications professionals to develop content in a reader-friendly, crisp and engaging manner. In addition to writing to engage both internal and external audiences, your duties will include content planning and development for various mediums and communication channels to position our Transportation program for continued success. - Work with our Transportation leaders and subject matter experts to develop and write feature article content, thought leadership articles, white papers and social media posts.
- Write and edit press releases, email/digital media, internal and external announcements, award narratives, and conference abstracts.
- Research, write and edit project narratives and case studies.
- Work with our global communications team to develop communications strategies and content to elevate our expertise, our people and our project work on the HDR website, digital and other publication channels.
- Support the efforts to strengthen relationships with leading market-focused trade publications to develop new opportunities for promotion and exposure.
- Create content for subject matter experts' LinkedIn accounts and help with publication where required.
- Develop collateral, brochures, presentations and other marketing campaign materials where required.
- Support event planning and facilitation activities where required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree in writing, journalism, marketing, architecture, engineering, communications, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience in a variety of writing styles, including web writing, copywriting, journalism, and/or persuasive writing, with the ability to produce clear, engaging content tailored to targeted audiences and platforms.
- Strong interviewing and informationgathering skills, with the ability to synthesize and prioritize complex or technical information into compelling communications.
- Experience editing content for grammar, style, structure, organization, and clarity.
- Experience writing in a conversational yet professional tone.
- Knowledge of best practices for social media and email marketing.
- Understanding of engineering, architecture, and related consulting services industries.
- Willingness to offer creative thinking and collaborate closely with subject matter experts and marketing/communications teams.
Required Qualifications
- A minimum of 5 years experience in a communications field of expertise: social media, event planning, community engagement, target marketing, descriptive writing, public involvement, etc
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Self-motivated and ability to work independent with multiple teams as well as team oriented
- Great interpersonal and communication skills - positive outlook and attitude
- High aptitude for managing and solving tactical issues
- An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
- Comfortable and competent while working with senior leaders and managing cross-functional efforts
- Demonstrated ability to operate both strategically and tactically in a high-energy, fast-paced environment
- Committed to quality, continuous improvement, and HDR values
- Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite - InDesign
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
