DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will perform tasks in the operation and upkeep of the facilities at the Laurel Hill Complex state park. Your work will play a vital role in supporting the bureau's mission to safeguard and preserve the natural resources of the commonwealth. You will be responsible for operating various heavy machinery, such as backhoes, bulldozers, excavators, high-lifts, and front-end loaders with a bucket capacity of three cubic yards or more. These tasks will support construction, maintenance, and grounds work, including snow removal and cindering. Additionally, you will operate skid loaders, tractors, mowers, trucks, and UTVs as needed.

Your duties will also include maintaining and improving dirt and gravel roads, shelter access roads, trails, and administrative roads. This involves cleaning ditches, berms, and culverts, as well as installing headwalls when required. When not operating machinery, you will engage in manual labor for assigned projects, such as loading and unloading trucks, and installing or repairing underground utilities like water, sewer, and electric lines. Maintenance tasks will consist of lubricating equipment, changing oil, fuel, and air filters, sharpening mower blades, and inspecting for any worn or broken parts.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Days/Shifts will vary, will work 5 days/37.5 hours per week to include holidays and weekends
  • Occasional overtime and travel may be required.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience as an Equipment Operator A (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Two years of experience in the operation of heavy construction and specialized maintenance equipment used at this level with a gross vehicle weight of 32,001 pounds or more: or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience or training.

Special Requirements:

  • You must possess a valid Class C Pennsylvania driver's license.

Conditions of Employment:

  • This position requires possession of a Class A commercial driver's license (CDL) with Tanker (N) endorsement.
