DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this role, you will assist the diesel mechanic with a wide range of analytical, preventive maintenance, and repair tasks involving a fleet of construction equipment, trucks, automobiles, and hand tools powered by gasoline or diesel engines. Your work will include repairs to hydraulic, electrical, heating, cooling, and exhaust systems, as well as manual and automatic transmissions, and you are expected to report any equipment accidents or damage immediately. Under the guidance of the Equipment Manager and Automotive Mechanic Supervisor, you will independently perform routine minor repairs such as replacing light bulbs, hoses, clamps, filters, and tires, recharging or replacing batteries, checking fluid levels, and completing regular lubrication. This position involves significant physical labor and includes assisting mechanics and skilled trades staff with more complex repairs, including work on heating and cooling systems, transmissions, clutches, brakes, hydraulic systems, hand tools, bodywork, plow repairs, and cutting-edge replacements. You will accurately record parts and time charges, operate a noncommercial vehicle to deliver or pick up parts, mail, and related items, and perform basic equipment diagnostics using testing procedures and diagnostic tools while supporting more advanced troubleshooting efforts.
