Minimum Education
Bachelor's Degree Architectural, facility planning, health care management or related field (Required)
Master's Degree Architectural (Preferred)
Minimum Work Experience
10 years progressively responsible experience leading healthcare facilities space planning and design and renovations/expansions planning. (Required)
Required Licenses
Architecture- Licensed to practice in Maryland, Virginia or D.C. (Required)
Required Certifications
Green Building- LEED AP, or similar (preferred)
Certified Healthcare Architect- ACHA (preferred)
Evidence-Based Design Accreditation and Certification- EDAC (preferred)
Required Skills/Knowledge
* Knowledge of clinical operations and design and some familiarity with Research operations and animal vivarium is preferred but not required.
* Knowledge of all applicable legal, regulatory, and policy requirements, including Joint Commission, District of Columbia Department of Health, state, federal and local regulations and guidelines.
* Comprehensive knowledge of healthcare development and facility planning strategies, techniques and methods.
* Strong analytical skills to collect information from diverse sources, apply professional principles in performing various analyses, and summarize information and data.
* Prior experience and ability to lead a high performing team. Advanced negotiating/diplomatic skills and expertise in providing technical assistance on facility development issues.
* Expertise in project management, financial analysis, problem solving, change management and customer service skills.
* Excellent written and verbal communications.
* Working knowledge of job-related computer software applications such as CAD, and including Microsoft Office Project, Excel, Word and PowerPoint programs.
Functional Accountabilities
Strategic Planning
* Plan, develop, analyze and recommend cost efficient and effective utilization of space for short and long range planning consistent with the Facilities Master Plan and organizational strategic plans.
* Manage and coordinate the planning and design services for all projects throughout the health system.
* Manage the architectural code review including compliance of plans with building codes, ADA, Department of Health and other standards.
* Assist in preparing for annual capital requests.
* Support the Facilities Management department in the development and implementation of the Facilities Master Plan.
Project Management
* Develop strategies for preparing regulatory submissions, including facility licensure and Determination of Need applications.
* Present submissions to regulators, respond to inquiries, and provide revisions that meet hospital needs and regulatory requirements.
* Develop and maintain facility standards including interior design, wayfinding, artwork, hospital standards program and design guideline process
* Manage assigned projects, working with departments to develop conceptual designs and prepared budget estimates through construction and punchlist. Work with Project Management and Engineering to ensure compliance with design objectives.
* Participate in architect and contractor interviews for each project; establish and develop professional networks and organization resources.
Operations Management
* Develop reports for leadership review of key space and construction planning and ensure availability of data for decision making.
* Represent the health system, as directed with neighboring institutions and regulatory requirements.
* Maintain and utilize the CAD system to ensure accurate coordination and allocation of space assignments.
* Conduct research and gather current data to perform value analysis; review interior design standards and specifications to ensure consistent quality across facilities; serve as a subject matter expert in healthcare design, evidence based design, sustainability, project delivery methods, market trends, pricing, and risk evaluation.
* Develop and maintain policies and processes for the efficient utilization and optimization of workspace; including BOMA Calculations, tracking and analysis of current occupancy metrics.
