Lead Construction Trainer

Description
We are seeking a Lead Construction Trainer to serve as the primary expert in construction trades and training, overseeing a critical component of the YouthBuild Buffalo program.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the on-site and off-site construction training and instruction of YouthBuild Buffalo students enrolled in the construction training track.
  • Teach hard and soft skills through hands-on training and credentialed educational programming with safety as a top priority.
  • Manage the construction training site(s) and guide youth in developing success skills through leading and managing the renovation, rehabilitation and construction of affordable housing initiatives.
  • Develops construction plans, schedules, and weekly training assignments; assesses potential work experience projects and sites.
  • Coordinates and monitors project progress, quality of work, and adherence to industry standards, safety procedures, and organizational policies.
  • Develops a training budget, monitors costs with partnering agencies, and orders supplies and materials.
  • Supervises, evaluates, and supports youth participants, including setting behavioral expectations and addressing worksite challenges.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with contractors, developers, and partners to support training, work experience, and job placement opportunities.
  • Keeps program leadership informed of the progress, challenges, and needs of the on-site work experience and training.
Compensation
An hourly rate of $37 - $43 per hour ($67,340 - $78,260), non-exempt, with a benefits package.

Job Requirements
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in related field preferred.
  • 2+ years professional level construction experience working with all elements of housing construction required.
  • Supervisory experience in construction-related activities preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of methods and skills in the use of carpentry equipment, materials, and tools, and common hazards and necessary safety precautions required.
  • Skilled at reading and interpreting instructions, diagrams, sketches, and blueprints.
  • Proven ability to present and provide instruction in areas related to remodeling and new construction.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Positive relationships with local trade unions, businesses, project partners, etc.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment, up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to ascend and descend ladders, scaffolds, stairs and work in confined spaces and in proximity to loud equipment.
  • Ability to position oneself to work in different positions and movements.
  • Must be able to respond quickly to sounds.
