Department Overview

The Electric Transmission Design Engineering team delivers comprehensive civil and electrical engineering solutions for PG&E's transmission system. The group provides endtoend design support for both overhead and underground transmission facilities and plays a critical role in ensuring system reliability, safety, and longterm performance.

Core responsibilities include:

  • Engineering and design of transmission towers and steel structures
  • Engineering and design of wood pole structures in highload environments
  • Overhead conductor engineering and associated line equipment design
  • Underground cable system design, including structures and appurtenances
  • Fiberoptic system installation design
  • Preparation and issuance of construction drawings and asbuilt documentation
  • Technical coordination with Substation Engineering
  • Technical consultation, industry engagement (IEEE, vendors, utilities), and evaluation of project alternatives
  • Development of project scopes, detailed estimates, and material lists for Major projects.
  • Equipment specification, vendor coordination, and bulk material strategy
  • Construction support, training, and corrective action followup
  • Technical input for feasibility and earlystage project assessments

Position Summary

The Supervising Engineer will lead a team responsible for delivering highquality transmission design and engineering work, both internally and through external engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) partners. This role is accountable for:

  • Managing scope, schedule, budget, and quality for all assigned design and engineering activities
  • Building and maintaining strong, longterm relationships with EPC and engineeringonly contractors to support mutually beneficial performance and collaboration
  • Developing, tracking, and communicating key performance indicators-including design cycle time, quality metrics, cost performance, and schedule adherence
  • Engaging with stakeholders across construction, maintenance, and operations to gather feedback, identify improvement opportunities, and strengthen crossfunctional alignment
  • Employee development and training initiatives.

The selected candidate must live within PG&E's service territory.

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of thejob posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will bebased on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience,market value, geographic location, and internal equity.Although we estimatethe successful candidate hiredinto this rolewill be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decisionwill be made on a case-by-casebasis related tothese factors.

A reasonable salary range is:

Minimum Base Salary (Bay Area) $144,000.00
Mid Base Salary (Bay Area) $194,000.00
Maximum Base Salary (Bay Area) $244,000.00

Minimum Base Salary (California) $137,000.00
Mid Base Salary (California) $184,000.00
Maximum Base Salary (California) $232,000.00

Qualifications

Minimum

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
  • 5 years of experience in engineering with some of it in electric substation and transmission line engineering.

Desired

  • Knowledge of civil or electrical engineering practices, standards and implementation.
  • Knowledge of PG&E's electric substation and transmission line facilities.
  • Experience with supervision in project and design engineering. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Influence skills.
  • Collaboration and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong MS Office skills.
  • Knowledge of Engineers and Scientists of California (ESC) Union Contract.
