*Position Overview* We are seeking an experienced *Outpatient Medical Coding Specialist II* to support automation and coding workflows within the hospital business office. This role focuses on *Hospital-Based (HB) outpatient coding*, with required experience across *ambulatory surgery and wound care services*.
This is a fully remote opportunity, ideally suited for candidates located in *Iowa, Illinois, or Wisconsin*, though Midwestbased candidates will be considered. Due to limited training resources, candidates must be able to *hit the ground running*. *Location:* 100% Remote (Midwest preferred) *Job Type:* Contract (6-9 months; potential to extend) *Schedule:* * 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM CST *or* ** 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM CST* *Key Responsibilities* * Review inpatient and outpatient medical records for accurate documentation, abstraction, and analysis * Assign *ICD10CM, CPT, and HCPCS* codes to the highest level of specificity in accordance with official coding guidelines * Accurately code outpatient hospital encounters, including *ambulatory surgery services* (ortho, pain, wound, neuro, cardiac, and related specialties) * Apply modifiers, *CCI edits*, LCD/NCD policies, and medical policy rules to ensure payer compliance * Research and resolve coding errors and inconsistencies using *Epic Charge Review Work Queues* * *Consistently review and resolve codingrelated denials according to payer regulations* * *Perform charge entry and corrections for CPT and diagnosis codes* * *Collaborate with Clinical Auditors to identify improvement opportunities and provide guidance to providers* * *Assist with analysis of coding data for education and training purposes* * *Maintain quality scores of 95% or higher* while meeting productivity expectations * Ensure all work complies with *HIPAA*, compliance, and organizational policies * Participate in meetings, training, and departmental communication to maintain awareness of updates and standards *Required Qualifications * * High School Diploma or GED * Completion of a nationally recognized coding program (*AHIMA or AAPC*) * Current certification: *RHIA, RHIT, CCS, or CPC* * *2+ years of outpatient hospital coding experience* * *Hospitalbased outpatient coding experience in surgery and wound care (required)* * *Experience working within an EHR system* * *Ability to work independently in a remote environment with a dedicated home workspace* *Work Environment* * Fully remote position * All equipment provided (dual monitors, keyboard, mouse, headset) * Cameraon participation expected for team meetings *Training & Performance Expectations* * Limited formal training; onboarding approximately *3 weeks* * *All charts audited until coder achieves 95% accuracy* * *Once accuracy standard is met, coders will receive two audits per year* * *Ability to selfmanage workload and pivot between work queues as priorities change* *Job Type & Location*This is a Contract position based out of West Des Moines, IA. *Pay and Benefits*The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $27.00/hr.
