The Medical Director delivers comprehensive medical oversight for clinical services provided by Global Medical Response's family of solutions, including American Medical Response (AMR) emergency medical services personnel, and serves as the designated medical authority for the broader EMS system. This role provides medical direction not only for internal clinical teams, but also for county and public safety partners, including Fire Services, the Sheriff's Department (including SWAT), Emergency Management Agency (EMA), and E911. The Medical Director supports the implementation of clinically sound, evidence-based standards and provides leadership for quality and performance initiatives by serving as a liaison between the organization, the local medical community, and designated quality organizations and committees. Through collaboration, data review, and continuous improvement, this role helps define quality expectations, identify opportunities for advancement, test innovative practices, and adopt best practices in alignment with GMR's mission to provide care to the world at a moment's notice.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides medical direction not only for AMR clinical teams, but also for Barrow county and public safety partners including Fire Services, the Sheriff's Department (including SWAT), Emergency Management Agency (EMA), and E911
  • Reviews quality improvement and performance reports provided by AMR and identifies opportunities for improvement in patient care or system design and collaborates with all appropriate entities to develop an improvement program.
  • Creates or directs reports and records relating to patient care as may be required by the organization and/or regulatory bodies, whether public or private.
  • Reviews and responds to requests to review high priority clinical cases or audits, including recordings, within twenty-four hours of being notified.
  • Directs, coordinates, and/or participates in initial, ongoing and remedial education of emergency medical services personnel in accordance with company's policies.
  • Instructs and informs management and governmental boards or agencies to summarily limit, suspend, or withdraw clinical credentials of emergency medical service personnel.
  • Develops criteria for establishment and maintenance of credentials for our emergency medical services personnel, which includes design and development of protocols, guidelines, implementation of new medical equipment, patient information forms, medical record forms, and consent forms for use in the field or for AMR purposes.
  • Undertakes activities, as reasonably requested by our company, including professional contacts with physicians, healthcare systems, public health agencies, paramedic associations, nursing associations, governmental agencies, and state and local medical societies to apprise such individuals and groups of the nature and availability of facilities and services, facilitating the exchange of information on patient care, administration, medical policy, and utilization review.
  • Responsible for approving all local implementation plans for the ordering, distribution and handling of controlled substances (to include oversight and sign-off on all controlled substance records and logs in a timely manner) consistent with local, state & federal requirements and maintain all appropriate state and federal permits, registrations or licenses necessary to prescribe controlled substances.
  • Secure DEA and state-controlled substance registration(s) as requested and fully participate in the Controlled Substances Ordering System (CSOS) of the registered distributor of our company's choice within six months of the effective date. Medical Director will review the efficacy of the control processes in place within the controlled substances program at least annually.
  • Oversees protocol and operation of communications centers, AMR Inter-facility, Specialty or Critical Care Transport operations regarding development, education, and performance review.
  • The Medical Director shall be expected to provide or arrange for full-time support for the above requirements as needed.

Qualifications:
Education & Industry Experience

  • MD or DO from an accredited medical school.
  • EMS Fellowship or experience preferred.

Certifications and Licenses

  • Unrestricted license to practice medicine in the state of Georgia and approved to act as a medical director.
  • Maintains a current, valid, and unrestricted U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency ("DEA") registration.
  • Board certified or eligible in Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Surgery.
  • Sub-specialty board certification or eligibility in Emergency Medical Services (EMS) preferred.
