Dierbergs Markets is seeking a talented Category Manager who will be responsible for product assortment, merchandising strategies, vendor/broker partnerships and ensuring profitability and sales growth of our Beer, Wine, & Spirits Category. This position supports our Grow Every Day purpose and commitment to Better Execution through creating better customer experiences driven by impeccable product selection at competitive prices. The right person for this role is passionate about the beverage industry and has expertise in this category. They build strong partnerships, stay on top of trends and proactively share innovative ideas to continue to move the business forward with an eye on the future.

How You'll Make an Impact

Driving Sales Growth
- Maximize assigned category assortment opportunities and curate merchandising, promotions, and advertising strategies to drive sales and profits based on historical data, current trends, and future forecast
- Proactively explore opportunities to introduce creative and innovative products, partnerships and ideas to drive category success
- Evaluate competition and make category recommendations to drive sales growth on a regular basis, by exploring both brick and mortar, as well as on-line sites
- Research, analyze, and compare trends within Dierbergs product offerings and evaluate areas to creatively differentiate
- Expand private label product assortment and development by utilizing data to identify gaps and new product trends to address market needs

Cultivating Partnerships
- Align closely with suppliers, vendors, and distributors on logistic and product-related issues
- Maintain & strengthen partnerships with vendors/brokers, negotiate and collaborate for purposes of promotional planning to secure the most competitive pricing
- Partner closely with the Advertising and Marketing team on ways to market the Party Center category to ensure maximum product awareness
- Provide excellent customer service at all times; serve as a resource to store management teams with inquiries and problem resolution
- Foster a work environment that embodies the core values of Dierbergs, champion and develop a diverse and inclusive team environment

Managing Cost & Financial Performance
- Own and manage assigned categories, identify and present opportunities for cost savings, and tailor strategies to meet financial goals
- Conduct in-depth analysis of consumer data that includes pricing and promotion effectiveness, market trends, assortment evaluation and competitive analysis
- Continually evaluate retail pricing based on category goals
- Seek out and capture opportunities for special buys and Dierbergs exclusive items to continue to differentiate Dierbergs in the marketplace
- Create visibility on category spend, savings, inventory opportunities, and supply constraints. Then aligns with Senior leadership on short-term and long-term strategies to drive category performance Partner closely with Finance team to ensure vendor payment is received and accurate

Leading & Developing Teams
- Contribute to overall team success by interviewing, selecting, and developing Department Managers
- Build and maintain relationships with store teams to better understand the demands of the business and to assure programs & promotions are being fully executed
- Appropriately communicate and partner with store teams to ensure understanding and execution of category plans including:
- Reviewing department conditions, merchandising, signage/tags, program compliance and inventory levels
- Partner with vendors and learning team to provide additional training to Department Managers to further their beer, wine, & spirits education

About You
- Minimum 5 years combined experience in retail, merchandising, pricing, logistics, supply chain, procurement or distribution
- Experience in the Beer, Wine, Spirits industry preferred
- 3+ years' experience in Category Management
- BS or BA required
- Excellent verbal and written skills; strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Exhibits a high degree of creativity and innovation
- Exceptional interpersonal skills; projects a professional, friendly and outgoing image; open to others' ideas and input
- Must have exceptional ability to organize and prioritize work and handle multiple tasks; uses time efficiently and is resourceful
- Knowledge of merchandising management, retail management, replenishment and item management systems preferred
- Able to adapt to change and manage competing demands in a positive manner
- Highly proficient with Microsoft Office, specifically Word and Excel
